What was your first clinch, be it Interstate, Federal, State, or County route? Mine was MO-115. I got bored one afternoon and drove 115 from its west end at I-70 all the way into the heart of the city of St. Louis. That was after I learned to drive.
MA 213, which is easy to clinch by accident. It's a freeway that's 3.5 miles long.
Do you mean the road had to be clinched in one pass? Otherwise, I-84 is the only 2-digit interstate I've been on in its entirety...from Dunmore, PA (next to Scranton) to Sturbridge, MA. I also live within 3 miles of it, as it just scrapes the west edge of New Britain, CT (Exit 35- CT 72 East | To CT 9 and Exit 36 - Slater Road).

I forget for County Route. Probably Suffolk County Route 92 in NY.
State Route would be NY 108 because it's really short.
I have not clinched any federal routes.
My first interstate clinch would be I-68.

I should have been more specific. No, not on the first pass, you could revisit the route.
I'm sure I would have clinched IN-130 by the time I turned 4 years old, based on knowing where I lived, went to school, and other basic errands that my parents had to make with me in tow at the time.
Haven't clinched any US highways yet
County roads are trivial to me. Thinking about it, though, it would have been in Scott County, IA, and if I were to take a guess, it would be Y64.
As far as Interstates go, I think it was I-88 in Illinois. Either that or 280 in the Quad Cities, but I think I clinched 88 first.
These could all be inaccurate as far as I know, since I'm digging well into my childhood for this.
First was I-375 in Michigan, though that could be considered cheating since it's so short.
First "real" clinch would be I-5 from San Diego to Seattle.
Had to be either CT 120 or CT 364. Both short state routes a stone's throw from where I lived when I was 16. First Interstate was I-691. First 2 digit Interstate was I-97. First US route was US 222.
As a passenger:
State Route: WYO-222
US Route: US-113
Interstate: I-180 (WY)
As a driver:
State Route: VA-171
US Route: US-113 (different time)
Interstate: I-126 (Not sure, could also be an I-x64)
Interstate (2di): I-26
PA 433. I was around four or five at the time. It was about ten or so miles to the north of my house and we clinched all of it en route to a party with one of my dad's friends.
Not sure for county route.
Certainly none for US Routes (the shortest one is US 422, but even then I'm missing a huge chunk of it). I could still complete one on future roadtrips.
First Interstate is I-78. Did all of it when I was 7 on car trips to NYC.
My first clinched highways would likely be the 403, 405, 416, 420 and QEW since they're all close to where I've lived.
My first clinched roads in the US would likely be I-295, DC 295 and MD 295 which I did when I was around 4 years old.
This is pretty tough, reaching into the depths of your roadtrip memories.
Passenger:
Probably I-59, on one of our trips from Eastern TN to see family in New Orleans. Or I-30, when we moved up to TN from Austin.
For a US highway, it could have been US 550, before it was extended to Bernalillo. We went through there when I was really young, and it's one of my earliest memories because my parents were excited by it. Ironically, I've never been on the newer section between the Rio Rancho turn-off and the Chaco Canyon turn-off, so I haven't really clinched it anymore.
Driver:
Probably I-610 in Houston, but I-45 would have been my first 2-di when I came back from Utah via Kansas and OKC.
Would likely be either the New Jersey Turnpike and The Hutchinson River Parkway, if we allow major named highways that do not have coterminously posted numerical designations.
If not, um... well I definitely clinched I-678 at a fairly young age. It is entirely possible, however, that I clinched FL 682 before that. Depends on when the first time I went with my dad to pick someone up at JFK was (we flew out of LGA on the trip to Florida where I first clinched FL 682).
M10 in Michigan for the first State Route, I-96 for the Interstates, US 180 for first 3d US Route and US 46 for 2d US Route. The longest Interstate I clinched was I-10 and longest US Route is US 101....yes I've moved a lot through the years.
County: N1 (Malibu Cyn. road), LA county, first post-signage ca. 1963 (passenger, later as driver)
CA State: CA 134 (no choice, born/raised in Glendale) -- both original streets + later freeway.
First other state: NV 28 (Tahoe perimeter).
US: 199 (passenger, 1963 and as driver 1970). Only other US clinched: 163.
(If former routes count, then US 399)
Interstate (all): I-405, CA, when route completed in '69. Since then, have clinched all 3 iterations of I-405.
(trunk only): Big one: I-80, on a business trip to NYC in '89. Since then: 4,5,8,10,30,66,68,78,82,85,86 (west),88
(both), 97 (BFD!). Close (but no cigar) with 20,40,70,90,94. Did all available 22 freeway back in 2001 (pre-designation), when it ended at
AL 129 near Winfield.
Here's my clinch of M-10 in Detroit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ-HBC6QGHo
Interstate two digit I-78 three digit I-495 NY
US Route none yet
State NY 135
County Suffolk CR 6
First clinch I would care about, since I really don't think clinching a state or county route is noteworthy. I drove from Minnesota to Arizona in 1988, and on the way took all of U.S. 350 in Colorado. At the time, I didn't think anything of it, but it was the first U.S. route I clinched. I've done a little better since then with Interstate and U.S. routes.
I don't remember what was my first clinch. Probably Z-40 around Zaragoza as a driver.

State Route: WYO-222
US Route: US-113
Interstate: I-180 (WY)
And which was your first up-to-standards Interstate clinched?
As a passenger:
State route-I don't really remember, but I believe it is either MN 282 or MN 62 (the original). Both would have been on my dad's convoluted way from my original home in Cottage Grove, MN to my grandparent's house in SW Minnesota.
Interstate-I never did clinch a 2di as a passenger, but I do believe we eventually travelled all of I-694 before I moved away from MN for good. I don't think we ever did all of I-494 (and I know for a fact I haven't driven all of it).
As a driver-
State route- I had moved to ST. Charles, IL for high school, and I'm fairly certain this one is IL 25.
US route- After I moved here to Nebraska, I eventually did US 73 in its entirety all at once. This was before they changed the southern end to go to I-70 instead of I-435.
Interstate-I-88 for 2di's and I-280 in IA and IL for 3di's.
As a passenger...I-635 (KS-MO).
As a driver... OK-24.
As a passenger: I-196 in Michigan
As a driver: I-290 (IL)
I have no idea. My best guesses:
As a passenger, I-495 (VA/DC/MD), though it could be I-395 (VA/DC) or I-270 (MD). For a state route, I would guess VA-236. I don't know which came first, state or Interstate.
As a driver, probably I-395 (VA/DC) or I-295 (DC/MD) and VA-236. My parents have lived off 236 since the early 1980s. Again I don't know whether state or Interstate came first, but I think Interstate because Dad had me on the Beltway within a week of getting my learner's permit.
For US highways, I believe US-211 is the only one I've clinched, period.
I'm surprised this thread has lasted so long without someone busting on the reference to a "Federal" highway.
For me.
Interstate: I-465
US Hwy: N/A
State: IN 163
County: Edgar County Rte 2 (an extension of IN 163 to Paris, Illinois)
Provincial (Canada): ON 108 (first foreign clinch)
Estado (Mexico): CHIH 200
Near first clinches
US 150 in my home state (I haven't drove the section from Loogootee to Shoals. I took SR 550 instead.)
I-44 would be my first 2DI clinch, but I shunpiked it across Oklahoma using OK 66, US 81, and TX 79. I'd like to clinch I-72 by the end of the year.
You could also count Chihuahua 200 as a near clinch. I probably didn't drive less than a mile of it into Manuel Benavides. I drove to the "Benvenidos (Welcome to) Manuel Benavides" sign and then turned around.
IN 106, on the very first day I ever drove.
As a passenger
Interstate: I-280 in Toledo, OH
US Route: If business routes count, Business US-70 and Business US-117, both in Goldsboro, NC
State Route: Jackshit
As a driver
Interstate: I-795 in NC (the freeway was initially signed as US-117 when I drove it for the first time in 2006. Drove it many times since it became I-795. I was living in Fremont at the time, so clinching it was easy peasy :bigass: )
US Route: Business US-117 and Business US-70, both in Goldsboro, NC (I can't remember which one I clinched first, but they're near each other.)
State Route: Former NC-44 (now signed US-70 Bypass) in Goldsboro, NC (clinched in 2013 while it was only open from I-795 to Wayne Memorial Drive sooo....success!)
Just counting as a driver, since who the hell knows what I did as a passenger
State: Washington 163
2dus.: U.S. 730
3dus: U.S. 16
2di: I-82
3di: I-184
Either KY 498 (Lee County) or KY 1571 (Estill County), one of them most likely as a newborn on my way back home from being born in a Lexington hospital. Depends on what route my dad used driving back home from Lexington.
In New South Wales:
A28 was the first route I clinched.
As a passenger with my dad in 1971, my first clinched state route was MA Route 128. Shortly thereafter, my first clinched Interstate route was I-93 in Massachusetts - this was before it was extended through Boston down to Canton.
As a driver, my first clinched state route (in 1979 just after I got my license) was MA Route 107 , and my first clinched Interstate route (in 1983) was I-90/MassPike from Boston to West Stockbridge - was on a trip with my parents, and I had driving duty for the first leg to Albany.
Since that time, largely due to my work, I have managed to clinch every Interstate and freeway in Massachusetts - including every exit and entrance ramp.
Mountain Parkway in Kentucky.
1st I-clinch: Interstate 84 (E)-no later than 2008.
1st I-clinch by own direction (I.e. told parent where to go): Interstate 68
1st US clinch: Zippo. Zilch. Nada.
1st state route clinch: CT 302

I will be getting my permit on August 6...so I'm excited! :)
Can't remember offhand anything as a passenger. I know for sure I have no US or 2-digit interstate clinches. As a driver:
Interstate: I-295 (VA)
State: VA/NC 168
If we're limiting it to two-digit Interstates, then I think as a passenger it would be I-66 and as a driver, surprisingly to me, I think it'd be I-85.

For 2DIs, probably I-88 in New York, both as a passenger and a driver (over a decade later). Very easy 2DI clinch because there is nothing between the endpoints.

It's also the only 2di that I've clinched.
I-93 (MA, NH, VT) / I-495 (MA)
US 4 (NY, MA, NH)
MA/VT 142
So far with my learner's permit, I've fully clinched two routes, though I'm not sure which is my first: PA 581 and PA 343. Arguably I didn't truly clinch 581 because I got off and back on at US 11 in Mechanicsburg. The 343 clinch was also in two parts: most of it from Maple St. north, and the last little piece on Maple St.
Solely as driver:
2di: Eastern I-88
3di: I-277 (OH)
US: 61
State: MN 101 (Rogers-Elk River)
First 2di's a tough one. I really doubt it was I-84; I don't think I ever was on the section east of I-91 when I-86 was still around in CT. Even when I-86 became I-84, it wasn't until much later that I drove the old I-86 section, since I never had a reason to given where I lived.
Best guess is I-91.
My first clinch was almost undoubtedly NY 101, probably dating back to before I could even talk. It's only a few miles long and leads into the town where I grew up. My first county route clinch was Nassau CR 15, which is also in the town where I grew up, although I didn't know its designation until senior year of high school because Nassau County doesn't sign county route numbers and doesn't like to even admit that they exist. My first interstate clinch was probably the Throgs Neck Expressway (I-695), which you clinch if you're approaching the Throgs Neck Bridge (I-295) from the north. My first and only two-digit interstate clinch so far is I-84. No US routes yet, unless I'm missing something.
If limited to 2di then first clinch would be eastern I-76 (as a baby).
My first clinch while driving was Interstate 480N, which was during my first driving on a freeway. If we count signed routes, it would be Interstate 271. The first I clinched in one go was Interstate 290 in Massachusetts.
As a driver:
2DI: I-97
3DI: I-695 (Baltimore)
US: 340
State Route: MD 404, three weeks after I got my license
Riding (pre-licensed age), probably I-70S (now I-270) in Maryland.
Driving, probably I-495 in Maryland, Virginia and a tiny slice of the District of Columbia.
Her name was Stephanie.
MA 22 (by bike)
MA 25 (as a passenger), prior to it being extended east to the Bourne Bridge and taken over by I-495 (between MA 24 & I-195).
MA 128 (as a driver, including I-93 & 95 sections)
First accidental clinch might have been I-190 (Illinois), which is a glorified driveway. Or Illinois 126.
First intentional clinch was Illinois 21, just two months ago :spin:
The first 2di I've ridden the entirety of was probably I-76 (Colorado) when I was 12. The first 2di I clinched with myself behind the wheel was either I-88 (Illinois) or I-57. I don't think I've clinched any US routes yet, but I plan on clinching my first when I drive down to the Gulf Coast within the next 2 months (US43).
Good question. Some of this stuff is hard to remember; it was only recently when I started keeping track of this information.
I think the first state highway I clinched was WA 523 since that's the route we'd often drive on when coming home from my grandparent's house, and I sure spent a lot of time there from a very young age. :D That and going to swim lessons. I'm not sure which state highway I first clinched as a driver. I know that the first road I ever drove on was Index-Galena Road up at my cabin. This was the next step after driving in a big parking lot.
I don't think I've clinched an entire US highway within any state.
The first Interstate Highway I clinched in its entirety within a whole state was I-90 in Washington and Idaho, when our family drove to a family reunion in Colorado. And we also clinched I-82 on the way home. The first 3di and also the first Interstate highway I clinched while driving was I-405 in Seattle.
My first clinch was Interstate 17, my favorite road.
My second was AZ loop 303, AZ 51 was my 3rd, loop 202 was my 4th, AZ 74 was my 5th clinch, which I just did yesterday, and loop 101 will be my next, as I've only got a few miles I haven't traveled on.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a state highway clinch thread pop up yet. I would imagine that would be pretty time consuming for most people, I want to say off the top of my head that 83 and 264 might be the only state highways in Arizona that I haven't clinched fully.
As a passenger:
NJ 154 or NJ 55 or NJ 347 possibly on the same trip
NJ Turnpike
I-476
As a driver:
NJ 154 or NJ 24 within a few weeks of each other
Atlantic City Expressway
I-195 (NJ) or I-280 (NJ) or I-276 (PA) within a few weeks of each other
No US routes yet oddly enough
I can only guess at the first state highway clinch. I'm thinking MA 63.
Either I-895 between Lombard Street and the I-95 merge in Baltimore, or I-95 itself between O'Donnell/Boston Street in Baltimore and Maryland Route 152 about 17 miles to the northeast. I was born at Johns Hopkins, and live in Harford County to the north and east of the city. It was the spring of 1995 and I rode home in a Mazda 626.
As a driver, I believe my first interstate clinch was I-95 between Smithfield and Lumberton, North Carolina on the way to my annual Myrtle Beach vacation; I was 16 and only had my learner's permit. My first U.S. highway clinch was U.S. Route 74 from Lumberton to Chadbourn, and my first state clinch was North Carolina Route 410 from there to just north of Tabor City where it merges into U.S. 701.
State Route: IL 7. Not much of a challenge there as both endpoints are within 25 miles of my location.
US Route: None, but I'm getting really close on US 35. Only the stretch between US 36 and I-70 in eastern Indiana remains.
Interstate: I-294. I also finished off I-280 (IA/IL) earlier this year.
Now that I recall more memories, here's a more revised list:
First State Route: NC 711, Lumberton to Pembroke (about a couple months after I was born, I think November 2004)
First US Route: US 501, Myrtle Beach SC to Buena Vista VA (I think this was around spring 2005, where we went to Lexington VA and drove Skyline Drive. Also in 2005 we went south on US 501 to Myrtle Beach as part of a vacation in summer 2005)
First Interstate: I-74, all segments as of 2005 (this was all just to hunt for good BBQ). More freeway has been built ever since I left in 2006, so technically this is now an obsolete clinch.
First clinch: I-90 Bus in Spearfish
First state clinch: probably WY 110 (or maybe SD 231 or SD 445... I can't remember).
First Interstate clinch: I-190 (Rapid City)
First US clinch: US 73
Either I-490 or I-390 in NY. Not sure which.
Living in Rochester at the time; I know I did the eastern half of I-490 in 1998 when I drove my friend to Rhode Island to see his dad, but I don't know if I had driven the western half yet. But I do know I took I-390 in 1999 when I went to Atlanta.
WI 111.
US 8 was my first and only US highway clinch for a long time until I started traveling for work.
I-535 was the first interstate. I-39, the first mainline interstate.

My first clinched highways would likely be the 403, 405, 416, 420 and QEW since they're all close to where I've lived.
My first clinched roads in the US would likely be I-295, DC 295 and MD 295 which I did when I was around 4 years old.
Now that I think about it, my first clinch would likely be the 410. I was born in Mississauga, and I lived off Bovaird Dr in Brampton, which at the time was the northern terminus of the 410. Unfortunately I haven't been on the new section north of Sandalwood Parkway, so I can no longer list it as "clinched" :-/
UPDATE August 7th: I finally drove on the 410 extension, so I've reclaimed this clinch :)
For me, it's probably I-675 around Dayton, Ohio. I drove the whole thing when it was first opened.
For 2 digit interstates, it's probably I-26, and I had to go back and do that one again after it was extended into Tennessee.
I-190 after a trip, going in and out of O'Hare. More significant one was I-355 after the extension
I'd have to imagine both as a passenger and driver it would be NY 179.
State highway: CA 57. Held true even when it was extended north from the Kellogg Interchange toward San Dimas.
US highway: US 199
Interstate: I-210, prior to CA 210's establishment. (I don't have the CA 110 segment in San Pedro). Post CA 210, I-405 in Oregon.
As a passenger - probably I-280 in Ohio, from I-75 down to the Turnpike.
As a driver - probably I-280 in Ohio, from I-75 down to the Turnpike. I think my "most significant" clinch to me was clinching I-90 from the Minnesota/Wisconsin line all the way to I-86 in Pennsylvania.
Passenger: WA-96, probably...
Driver: I-405
On foot: WA-519 in Downtown Seattle
On water taxi: WA-339
By bus: WA-522
