For the map geeks out there (like me):

Hand-drawn 1790 map of Detroit discovered in home (http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2016/09/27/hand-drawn-1790-map-detroit-discovered-home/91164736/)

This dates from before Judge Woodward's plan.

QuoteA rare, hand-drawn 1790 map of Detroit has been discovered in a family home in Ontario. The framed 21-by-40-inch map is now part of the University of Michigan's William L. Clements Library collection and shows the city under British rule.

Well little bit before even that, you can see the military fortification that was built as an outpost still there.  That would have been when Detroit was part of Quebec also.
