94 is the number for me. I did it in a 1997 Dodge ram 1500, which topped out at that speed.
I thought there was already a thread for this; I searched twice, found nothing.
130mph in my former 1996 BMW 328i sedan. Oddly enough, earlier that trip I drove the then "Montanabahn" (reasonable and prudent limit in the day for cars), but only got to 126mph in that state.
Neither of my current vehicles will go anywhere near that fast. Al Gore's son reportedly was ticketed for 99mph in his Prius, but I never went over 90 in mine. My pickup truck will comfortably go higher than 90, but never pushed its limits.
I've gotten up to 108 or so passing a series of trucks on US-20/26 between Riverton and Casper Wyoming in a 2001 Honda Accord. My current car (a 2015 VW Golf) tops out at 124, but I've never taken it past 95 or so.
Fastest I've ever driven is 120 mph in my old 1997 Honda Accord. My current primary car, a 2004 Acura TL, can do 152 mph, but I don't think I've ever taken it above about 110 mph and that was 11 years ago heading east across Alligator Alley back when it was more of a raceway than it is now. I hardly ever even touch 90 anymore.
Don't know how fast my other car, a 1988 RX-7 convertible, can go, but I'd never even try to do 100 because inevitably my hat would probably blow off. The curse of the middle-aged male, having to wear a hat in a convertible to avoid a sunburned scalp.
I drove a stock car around Richmond International Raceway a year or two ago. Only hit 96 mph (they told you how fast you could go), but since each straightaway is less than half a mile long, it was still kind of wild to go that speed. I'd love to do it again on one of the big speedways.

191 km/h in my sister's audi. That's the speed the car was limited to.
I did 100 once in a Chevy Cavalier just to say that I had. I was on a county road in rural Oklahoma, which probably wasn't the best place to test the theory.
138 MPH on I-10 in a 2011 Camaro SS heading down hill westbound somewhere before the big drop to Quartzsite. Apparently it was governed to 155 MPH in that particular model year but would do something like 173 MPH.

Heh. My 120 mph was in Northern Virginia. I slowed down when I realized I was approaching a car up ahead at more than double that car's speed!
Long(er) distance - about 80 to 85 across the Alligator Alley in Florida, before it was I-75 - back then it was a wannabe Super-2 highway.
Short(er) distance - about 90 or 95 MPH in my current (but worn) 2001 Ford F250, which was as fast as it would go (I believe it has some sort of governor, as well as a built in RPM limiter, though I was noplace close to red-lining it in 6th gear).
GPS indicated 145.8 mph on a brand new just opened bypass, no traffic and no opportunities for cross traffic save for an errant deer....2012 Mustang GT 5.0. Sadly, that was all it would do, the governor kicked in, foot was on the floor for 4.5 miles of that 5.5 mile bypass, lol.
I never did test out my 2014, I figured it would be the same, and by the time I got that car the new bypass wasn't so new anymore-plenty of other cars on the road to worry about.
120+ on Interstate 15 between Barstow and Vegas in a '69 Chevelle. Not sure how fast, exactly, as the needle pegged there.

Fastest I've ever driven was about 95 mph in my sister's 1984 Civic on I-90 in Wyoming. My sister was with me, and we were driving from Montana to New York City (and no, she didn't disapprove of my speed).
Somewhere between 95 and 100 on I-15 in Idaho, south of Rexburg, in some sort of rental sedan. I was just going and my kids in the back seat suddenly yelled out, "Dad, you're going 100!"

95 MPH on US-20 between Bend, OR and Burns (55 MPH limit at the time). Passing a truck, had to floor it to get past in time. Which is funny, because I've never even hit 90 MPH on I-84 in Idaho (80 MPH limit). Around 85 is the limit I feel comfortable cruising at, regardless of speed limit. At least in my Subaru Forester.
I hit 86 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike around Somerset in my 2004 Buick Century last week.
100mph in a 2005 Dodge Stratus one day back in early 2007 while I was a senior in high school. I was on I-795 in NC (signed as US-117 at the time) and the road was still new with hardly any traffic and no cops. I treated I-795 like it was my own personal Daytona 500 since I was living in Fremont back then. It was governed at 100mph. I usually cruised 80-95mph. The car handled pretty damn well! I had a lot of fun cruising up and down I-795 with the radio blaring back then.
I was in Goldsboro 3 weeks ago and came down I-795 from Wilson. There's no way I would attempt 100mph on that road again. One, I no longer have the Stratus and now driving an older SUV that's seen better days to put it mildly, and two, I noticed I-795 is carrying a bit more traffic than it used to. Nothing bumper to bumper, but not as empty as it once was.
(Disclaimer: Yes, I'm aware a Dodge Stratus isn't nothing to brag about, but it was still in new condition with low mileage and it beat what I was driving before, which was my own 2 feet.)
I haven't ever gone past 85 mph. My current car tops out at 122 mph, never tested that.

Almost 100 on I-65.
Whenever my family and I go on road trips, the speed limit is usually 65 to 70, so we just got 80. Fastest is 85, which is impressive for our car.
I somehow managed to get up to 95 on I-95 between Ashland and Fredericksburg, VA...and cars were still passing me. Go figure.
I think the fastest I've ever driven was probably 150 km/h (93 mph) when passing someone. I almost never drive that fast though, because going 150+ in Ontario is considered street racing (not worth the risk!)
I was doing 90 today. And that was simply going with the speed of traffic in the left lane.
I'm honestly kind of surprised how many people haven't even gone 100 MPH. Seems like a normal thing to do at least once...at least to me.

Well...suffice to say that I wasn't driving in New England during the age that I lived there. But I sure did hit 100 a couple times in my teenage years a couple times in the Carolinas and Midwest. I seem to recall going pretty fast on the Chicago Skyway or something when I was 17 or 18. It just seems like a lot of these lower speeds are coming out of the east coast. Maybe I just got too used to speed limits of 75, 80, or even 85 MPH.

About 180 knots (~215 MPH) in a rented Piper Arrow on desent into San Jose International. On the ground, I usually keep it below 100 MPH. I was on a Texas toll road near Austin with an 85 MPH posted speed limit in a rental and had trouble getting it much past 90 MPH.
On a Memorial Day weekend back in the 1990s, there was a huge accident that blocked access to I-15 (posted 70 MPH/55 MPH TRUCK) from the LA area. My then fiance'e, her parents, and I were in my Father-in-Law's one-year-old Honda Accord coming from the Bay Area and Central Valley with the three of them falling asleep, ideal weather, well lighted roadway, nearly straight, the Southern California people off the road because they were blocked, and all of the CHP dealing with the accident. I discovered that somewhere between 150 and 160 km/hr was comfortable and safe. I got it up to about 180 km/hr before I decided to slow down to the more normal Autobahn speed. People were passing me when I drove 140 km/hr (my guess is that 85%tile was my speed).
This past summer driving out west, I got my car ('08 Hyundai Sonata) up to 125 driving through the Mojave Desert in southern California. I believe it was somewhere between Kelso and Amboy.
Before that, I've gotten my car up to 115-120 on I-95 north of Old Town, ME, where there are more moose than other cars on the highway.

I would have done that if I knew there wouldn't be cops up there. I kept my cruise control at 80. Only passed a couple of trucks and zero vehicles passed in either direction when I was being secondaried at the border crossing.
I have a GPS track log that alleges 102 MPH in a 1994 Saturn SL2 while completing an overtaking maneuver on US 400 east of Wichita in July 2015.
105 on I-25 in Wyoming (north of Casper) last year. I dropped back to 90 pretty quickly between the terrain (which is great for hiding troopers) and not knowing Wyoming's speeding laws.

Wish I knew that 2 months ago when clinching I-95. Some spots with beautiful scenery, but that stretch went on forever.
I honestly can't remember, but I did get up to around 87 or so going the speed of traffic on I-64 WB between Huntington and US-35 last weekend.
88mph in a 2002 VW Jetta Wagon on I-82, coming down Manastash Ridge near Ellensburg, WA, sometime in 2006. Getting in the left lane and blasting it is really the best way to get through there.
I did about 100 once back in Louisiana along LA 1088.

Fastest I've ever driven was around 135 MHP (220 kph) using a 2008 Chevrolet Denali in 2011, we were been followed by an armed group, so we didn't wanted to get caught so we speeded to get safe, was an scary situation which hopefully never happens again.

In northwestern Kansas, where I grew up, "straight" is pretty much a given. I did once attempt to pass someone in that car while going above 100 mph, then realized there was an oncoming vehicle. With just a tap on the brake, I felt the vehicle wiggle. So you're right: losing control would have been very easy to do.
Back in those crazy days, I became fond of driving the 25 to 30 miles between towns at over 100 mph nonstop. The station wagon was my mom's car, but I usually drove my dad's 1997 Camry sedan with a 5-speed. I found out one night what a governor does... :-o At 113 mph, in the dark, suddenly the car went out of gear. Freak out!!
Since high school (graduated in '99), I don't think I've gone over 90 mph.

I've never gone faster than 135 km/h in Mexico, although I do usually see people doing around 180 km/h there. But the police are starting to use radar more and more these days. I've personally been pulled over for speeding near the junction of Mex-2 and the newer bypass just west of Nuevo Laredo, and I've seen radar in use on the Libramiento Norponiente de Saltillo as well. For me the crazy days was like 6-7 years ago, when I used to reckless driving in small two lanes highways in Mexico 23, in a lonely scenic segment south of Zacatecas state and north of Jalisco (near to Teúl), I was drifting in curves using the mazda 3 hand brakes and manual shifting, and of course speeding, bypassing cars in hills, curves, etc, was a an incredible experience but dangerous, I stopped doing it when I lost control of my car in a 180° curve going over 120 kph (70 mhp), fortunately I just hit a gravel segment which helped to reduce the speed, rolled in 360° inside the road and barely crashed into the curve signal until fully stop, some minor damages, like a small scratch from the signal, the brake pads, severe tire damage (of drifting and going off road) and suspension, lol... never again..
As for police checking speed in Mexico, there are many segments being watched, for my experience driving over and over the same road I usually know where are the "hot" spots where police uses to be checking speed among Zacatecas-Durango highway and Zacatecas-Aguascalientes highway. In many cases, there are surprise checkpoints, as soon I see a police, I do check my rear view mirror (to see if there isn't any car behind me) and hit the brakes to reduce speed quickly as possible to the speed limit... it's a dangerous trick but have worked for me in many situations for avoid detained. I do often drive at 140 kph (about 90 mhp), seems a good speed but the speed limit in most areas it's just 110 kph (about 70 mhp).

At high speeds there are special rules for tire inflation that come into play. The 2005 Camry I use as a roadtrip vehicle (fifth generation; the ones in your family were third or fourth generation) is in comfort-oriented XLE trim, with label pressures of 29 PSI, but the owner's manual specifies 35 PSI if the car is routinely driven above 100 MPH, while sports-oriented SE trim calls for 35 PSI on the label from the start. (Supposedly some of the suspension components used for the SE differ from those used for the base, LE, and XLE, but I have not actually verified that they are listed under different part numbers. The SE does get alloys one inch larger in diameter than the XLE.) Beyond 100 MPH, there are tables specifying added inflation and reduction in maximum load according to the speed rating of the tires. As an example, this table applies to H-rated tires (safe at speeds up to 130 MPH):

My primary reason for not speeding is to avoid the burden of watching for the police, but my tire maintenance regime is a secondary factor. It is so troublesome to check and adjust tire pressures under conditions that minimize the likelihood of directional effects on handling that I like to overinflate the tires slightly and then ignore them for months and months. (For example, if the car is routinely parked outside, tire pressure adjustment has to be done in the dark before the car has been driven for the day, because direct sunlight is enough to create a ~4 PSI differential across each axle.)
I last did tire pressures on the Camry and Saturn about a week and a half ago. I found the Camry to be 4 PSI under label (last checked and adjusted October 2015, with pressures set to label + 3 PSI) and the Saturn to be 6 PSI under label on front, 4 PSI under on rear (last checked and adjusted probably September 2014, with pressures set to label + 4 PSI).
Floored it for many miles on 84 in Connecticut trying to get to someone dying. No idea how fast I was going–it felt like I was going 40, but it was likely as fast as I've ever gone. Didn't make it.

I should also add that I have driven 130 km/h (legally) [about 81 MPH] on motorway E18 in southern Finland in the good old days when 130 was the highest legal limit there (it's 120 now).
That is the fastest I have ever driven legally (I have driven on I-15 on Utah with a posted limit of 80 MPH).

Fastest I've ever driven was around 135 MHP (220 kph) using a 2008 Chevrolet Denali in 2011, we were been followed by an armed group, so we didn't wanted to get caught so we speeded to get safe, was an scary situation which hopefully never happens again.
I would be very interested to know where this was.

That's interesting. I wasn't aware of any heightened level of violence along that route. Data released by the PGR (Attorney General) in 2012 only goes through September 2011, but I am including what data I have for the route below, broken down by

That is the fastest I have ever driven legally (I have driven on I-15 on Utah with a posted limit of 80 MPH).
I've driven 85 mph legally (137 km/h) in Texas.
110 mph in my 1994 Acura Integra.
I once drove a sustained 90-95 in my 1984 Honda Accord and made it from Knoxville TN to Lexington KY (the stretch was about 180 miles) in about 2 hours.

Usually the media covers only major incidents like homicide in its statistics like you show in this graph, but no incidents of mugging, extortion and other "minor" criminal activities which are common almost everywhere in the country, usually people just faces it and doesn't complain to the government due of complicity fear, lack of support and trust to government institutions.

(some friends in US told me about this tolerance gap), you add 5 mhp to any rural highway speed limit (not in urban areas), example posted 75 mph speed limit, you can be tolerated to go max to 80 mph, getting to 81 mph (at 75 mph speed limit) it's detention by the cop, but not sure if legally allowed to exceed the posted speed limit.
105 mph in a 1994 Nissan Maxima on I-65, somewhere between Crown Point and Lafayette, IN, very early in the morning and no one else in sight so I went for it. I don't remember the year but I got that car in 1996 and sold it 1998. It seemed like it took forever to slow from 105 back down to 65ish. Never got close to that speed again, no faster than the low 90's after that.
It was kind of scary but not as bad as going 42mph on a bicycle while being chased by a growling dog who could run 35mph and wouldn't give up the chase.
I once reached 137 on a Yamaha R6 due to an idiot in a car who sped up when I was overtaking him. He gave up when he reached his 130mph top speed. Why does anyone driving a car with a 2 litre engine think they can outrun a sports bike.
I went 90 mph on I-5 NB in Vancouver, WA. My brother, my friend, and I were coming home from vacation near Tillamook, OR and we were driving home on Labor Day and we just saw a Subaru SVX (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Alcyone_SVX) get onto the freeway. It's a very rare car that my brother really likes, and my brother wanted to catch up to it. I had to go 90 to do so.

I think the only legal tolerance is the limit of the radar, which often have a mile an hour or two plus/minus rating (for example, if they clock you going 72, you could very well have been going 70, but you could also have been going 74). Unofficial tolerance levels vary by the state. In my experience here in Washington, it seems to be 10-15 over the limit + your variance from surrounding traffic. If everyone is going 75 in a 60, they won't pull anyone over. But if someone is doing 90 or 95 while everyone else is going 75, they'd probably stop you.
Momentary 102 mph on I-81 southbound just south of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, in 1983 in a 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88.
Sustained 115 mph on the A6 and A67 autobahnen in southwest Germany in 1997 in some unknown, late-model (for the time), mid-size, German rental car.
Just 100 in a rented Volkswagen Jetta on I-55 in north Mississippi.
I had a new 1975 Honda CB750F motorcycle. Back then, only a small section of I-275 in Detroit's western suburbs was open (from the M-153 Ford Road exit to the present-day M-14/I-96 interchange, and there was hardly anyone using it since it didn't really go anywhere yet). I got on at Ford Road, accelerating to the red-line in each gear. As I entered the freeway, I was going about 80 in third gear. I topped out at around 125 (speedo needle was dancing a bit, so it could have been a tad more or less).
I didn't stay there long. All the things that could go wrong started going through my head (throwing the chain, flat tire, etc.), and I slowed down to about 60 and it felt like walking speed. I never had the bike over 80 after that.
