Have you ever broken records on purpose? I'm talking about those round things we had that played music.
I don't think I ever have, but I know people who have. One of my high school pals told me he found an old record laying around the school, took it home, cut it with his scissors, then played it.
My brother had a friend who destroyed a cardboard "Spooky Stories" record from a cereal box by pulling the sheeting off of it and wadding it up.
At the college radio station I was on, one of the managers smashed a record because the lyrics consisted of nothing but the f-word repeated over and over. He admitted destroying university property.
As a teenager, I knew some kid who said he flew into a rage once and picked up huge stacks of records and smashed them over his knee.
Someone on a radio forum said they smashed the station's 45 of "I Want Your Sex" by George Michael because several of the DJ's refused to play this "dirty" song.
No. The closest I have gotten is accidentally stepping on a CD case with the CD inside.
By the way, most of the questions you ask in these threads have an answer of "no" for almost everyone.

When I got my first CD player in the 80's, my mother got me this Atlantic Starr CD that I had no intention of listening to. I didn't like the group, and I'm still not sure why she bought it for me.
Fast forward about 5 years, and I'm home for a weekend from college. My brother comes out from our bedroom and asks if I would have any objection to him running a science experiment on that cd since no one listens to it. I didn't really care, and went back to watching tv. Next thing I hear is a sound like glass breaking on the floor. My brother comes out smiling and says that he wanted to see if they were actually breakable or not, so he took a hammer to it to see.
In the '80s they used to fill the cars that got ran over by monster trucks with disco records.

My siblings and I used to scratch them or throw them around like frisbees....they were worthless at the time. Funny how the hipster crowd grabbed this one by the coattails and ran with it.
I'm puzzled by the use of the past tense in the original post when it says "round things we had." That to me implies we don't have records.

The monster truck promoters were trying to ape the popularity of Disco Demolition Night for a good 10 years. No riots though.

I haven't broken an LP. But I used to work in the returns warehouse at a publishing company, and we would sometimes receive boxes that were sent to the wrong publisher. If it had come from a huge middle-man distributer (such as supply Walmart stores), it was generally not worth their while to have it sent back to them; writing off the potential credit made better business sense to them, so they let us keep the product. Boxes of CDs were my favorite, and I still listen to some hitherto unheard-of (by me) CDs I obtained that way. Anyway, we had great fun one day repeatedly driving over a Brittney Spears CD with a 20,000-pound forklift. Funny how something like that can make a person feel happy.
Vinyl, no. AOL CDs, yes.

That's actually pretty funny! Would have been even better if TS hadn't screwed up (or just ignored) the chord progression of
Adeste Fidelis, the basis for that particular carol.
I'm a record collector, so the idea of deliberately breaking one (unless it's spectacularly scratched) is a bit foreign to me. Speaking of "heavy metal", my GF gave me a 180-gram copy of Metallica's (1991) "Black" album for my b'day last week (my previous main copy had, despite my best efforts, picked up more than a few ticks & pops, not to mention a bit of warpage -- and the phono cartridge I use is quite unforgiving!). Normally I don't like reissues, but this one is spectacular -- highly recommended for anyone who appreciates a good recording -- regardless of genre!

Had a reel-to-reel deck some years back that would, if the controls were pressed in the wrong sequence, quickly unravel a 10 1/2" reel of tape (a little over 2/3 mile of tape!) on the floor in less than a minute. Learned not to do that after a couple of such mishaps -- but it
was sort of neat to see this big reddish-brown pile of tape on the floor! -- at least until you had to either roll it back up on the reel or just scoop it up and throw it away (depends upon whether you were feelling more thrifty or lazy that day).

Well, I must have found them -- at a little record store in Fremont (CA). They're now in my Comedy section, alphabetized right before Cheech & Chong! Don't worry, I'm providing a good home for them! Funny how they made it out here intact & playable! ;-)
