Title: K KK
Post by: TR69 on January 23, 2017, 09:12:16 PM
Apologies if this has been mentioned before...

I ran across this unfortunate meeting of lettered highways on GSV today...Lixville, Missouri:

https://www.google.com/maps/@37.5766695,-89.9114978,3a,75y,246.75h,93.06t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1svWhnGFQ1GLxYTgKH3KDkOA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

There was a thread about Wisconsin Route KKK in the Great Lakes forum. This one in Missouri comes close.

I seem to recall there was someone on Ebay that had a KK sign up recently and wanted something stupid like $300 dollars for it.

"Triple Kay" south of Rosendale WI?  Was it formerly county KKK?

According to a 1956 map I looked up on the Old Maps Iphone App, it was County KKK.  Fond Du Lac County probably has more Triple letter county roads than any other county, but over time they probably thought it wasn't the best choice of a designation.

I also did a google search and someone tried to sell one of those signs on Ebay.  It only comes up on image search, but did see the sign for myself.  The listing is no longer active, but did see the pic.
Link to the image?

That's the one!  I guess it really was KKK after all.  I'm sure the ensuing puns will write themselves going forward with the thread.  :-D

Wisconsin also has X & XX, as well as a XXX somewhere.

^^ There is no XXX, but there is an intersection of X and XX: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.4628261,-88.0367357,3a,75y,68.96h,89.84t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sqRhtUw28y1xwwFNAZrvvlA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Now all we need is an intersection of XX and XY...LOL!

US-54 in Missouri has an intersection with both K Hwy & KK Hwy in Ladonia.  I've driven through that intersection several times, but that was before I knew taking pictures of road signs was cool.  GSV from 2008 and 2009 show the signs stacked vertically, so you don't get the same striking effect.  I could swear they used to be arranged side-by-side, but that was twelve years ago now, so (1) my memory could be wrong or (2) they could have replaced the assembly since then.

Missouri does not have any instance of an X Hwy, nor one of an XX Hwy.

I passed through Ladonia in early November, it did catch my eye and my lens:

(The picture is not that small, Simple Machines fixed it that way.)

In a similar vein is the intersection of US 6 and NE 66 in Ashland NE.

US 6 also meets CT 66 at both ends of the Willimantic bypass.

According to the maps X and XX should also meet in NE Washington County as well. However I have seen no signs for X either from XX or from WI 28-144. I don't know if it's just a hidden or doesn't exist. Even the 2008 google street view showed no signs posted for X. These routes were once part of the old WI-84 that was decommissioned in the mid 1990's.
