Title: My new Highways iOS app. Testers wanted 😺
Post by: catsynth on April 14, 2017, 03:50:29 PM
Hi all.

As mentioned last weekend, I am working on a new iPhone+iPad app for road geeks like us.  It's less of a travel planner or a navigator, and more a fun app for the road where you can "collect highways" as you ride on them or go through interchanges, etc. Think of like a "Pokemon Go for Highway Geeks" :-D . You can also link to information on various numbered/named highways, search and explore, etc.  Here are a couple of screenshots from the current prototype:

Detail on a specific Highway

I'm attempting to cover US and Canada in the initial version, and hopefully expand to other countries over time.  So I'd love to get some folks to try it out in different regions of both countries :)

Please feel free to DM me if interested in testing (I hope to get a version ready for External Testflight by next week).  It basically just involves riding around with the app on.   And any other thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Cheers,
-Amanda

I tried it out myself on BART between SF and Oakland today and it worked great, following a long the tracks, recognizing I-880, etc.

Have you heard of Travel Mapping?  I'm imagining what it would be like if a project combined the best of both.  I know there are at least a few people who would be interested in tracking their travels but aren't on TM because of the need to manually create a .list file.

Afraid I can't help test - I run Android.  Otherwise, it certainly would have been an opportune time for it, since we're starting the annual pavement field survey next week.

TM is quite interesting, and I like the idea of combing what I am currently doing with it.  Quite a complex undertaking so something to consider for post v1 :)

And I do write Android apps as well so hope to have an Android version to share once v1 is done on iOS.

Was just going to ask about the Android version, if any. Good to see one is coming for us, too.

Plus one for me. I would love something that combined the two things

Well, it sounds like I should get on Android sooner rather than later :)

Beta 2 for the iOS version is out.  If anyone wants to get in on the fun, please let me know :)

I have also broken ground on the Android version.  More on that soon...

What's the minimum iOS requirement? I'm running 9.3.1 on my work-issued iPhone SE.

9.1 should be the minimum.  SE would be great since it's a different form factor than most of my current testing.
