This is separate from the US 85B routing (CR 9 and CR 6 on the map below) that was created earlier.

QuoteThe votes allow the state Department of Transportation to continue an environmental study on the area that will determine where exactly the road will go. The proposed 9-mile truck reliever route will connect U.S. Highway 2 and North Dakota Highway 1804 northeast of the city of Williston.

Last week, city commissioners voted to approve a route that cuts through Stony Creek and Pherrin townships, and Williams County Commissioners followed suit on Tuesday. Most of the land is in the county, but some of it extends into the city's extra-territorial jurisdiction, Williston's city engineer Bob Hanson said.

... The project remains unfunded and there is no date set for the start of construction. Still, Williams County commissioners have agreed to protect the proposed area for the next 10 years by restricting major development or infrastructure along the corridor.

Might eventually replace it, since it looks to be a rather temporary sort of bypass.

Also, it seems NDDOT really likes having the bypasses WAY out in the boondocks (see Killdeer, Dickinson, and Watford City as other examples).
