Note the interstate/US routes resemblance of the South Korean highways. Note this is Highway 60 in South Korea.
I wonder how much it cost to put in all of those tunnels. Can you imagine an American interstate cutting into mountains rather than going around from one to another (Example I-79 in West Virginia)?

The U.S. is a bit of an outlier with its lack of tunnels in mountainous areas. Tunnels are the norm in any mountainous area in Europe or Asia. Korea is very mountainous, there is often no point to go around mountains as you would run into the next mountain. Like Japan, most of the flatter areas in South Korea are urbanized so acquiring a right-of-way through urbanized areas is expensive and intrusive.
Here is a new roadgeek video from the Seoul area.
An under construction bridge collapsed near Anseong.
This bridge is part of Expressway 29 (Seoul - Anseong - Sejong Expressway). It was planned for completion in December 2026.
The second video shows that the whole superstructure moved sideways before the beams and large gantry crane collapsed. It appears that all piers are still standing.

Oof!
Does anyone here remember when I said that the runaway truck ramp on US 44 in Avon, Connecticut looks like it could send trucks and buses flying off a bridge? Well take a look at this one in South Korea:
