What kinds of goodies did everyone get as gifts? GPS units, atlases, digital cameras or camcorders, other roadtrip supplies?
A GPS for me. Garmin Nuvi 265T.

Since I just moved into my own place in June, I'm still lacking critical pieces of furniture, so my presents mainly focused on those. Nothing road-related this year. I told my mom I'd like the 2009 MUTCD for my birthday though.
I got nothing. All my road related paraphernalia I usually have to obtain myself. :-(

I've been looking for a suction mount for my camera. Where did you get that one from, if you bought it for yourself?
----
Also, I got another 8GB Sandisk SD card and an 8GB Sandisk flash drive.
Be well,
Bryant

Best Buy.
^^ Thanks. I'm looking online right now. What would be listed under? Camera suction mount, etc.? I'm looking at it right now.
Be well,

Under my tree was something differently road related: a book. Asphalt Memories: Origins of some of the street names of Clark County. This should be an interesting read that delves into some street name origins around the Las Vegas area.
It was researched by a county employee (museum employee, I think), with much of the proceeds going to the county museum. My mom had to drive out to the Clark County Museum on the other side of town to get it, cause she couldn't find it in local bookstores--for that, I'm thankful to her.
I got the 2010 Rand McNally Atlas, but nothing else road-related.

I got another copy of the 2010 Rand McNally as well, but I had to tell my mother that it really wasn't feasible as a Christmas gift since the next edition (2011) will be released within a couple months. (When I was growing up, it made much more sense as the editions were released in the September/October timeframe.)

Did not get any road related stuff this holiday (The SO was willing but said "I dont know how to get you a sign unless i steal one...." (Thanks, sweetie, but not necessary!)
The only thing that was close was a belated birthday present i got myself on Black Friday when i scarfed up a Garmin Nuvi with lifetime traffic for $130...
So, my mother is into scrapbooking. She knows these two guys from Idaho who buy up old papery things and resell them to people... usually with the idea that they'll then be cut up and made into collages. This, quite obscenely, includes old maps. For Christmas, my mother rescued a few from the chopping block by buying them and giving them to me instead.

Cool! I can just imagine unwrapping a street sign on Christmas morning now! I'd probably hear "You don't need that!"

Hmmm,
somebody doesn't have faith that your car will make it to your destination and back! :colorful:
I didn't get anything road related under the tree, but I did buy
Ridge Route: The Road that United California by Harrison Irving Scott.

So did I, and I already had a copy. I donated the one I bought to Longwood Public Library in Middle Island, New York.
I found two old porcelain enamel California traffic signs under my tree. One was an ACSC, 20's, BOULEVARD STOP and the other one was an LAPD, 30's, STOP. Now to find just the right spot for these guys in the sign room.

very nice!
glad you got the img tag issue resolved :sombrero:
where's LAPD gonna go? on the former CDOH wall that now has an assortment of everything?
oh, remind me to take a photo of the SJPD stop sign I restored ... the one Jeff S had that was a total beater (even more so after I used it to dig my car out of the ice on old US-10); Dale wanted it and I redid it for him and now it's quite nice!
