Did a morning drive over all 98 miles of CA 43 from Selma south to CA 119. The fog spiced things up between Selma and Corcoran to say the least:

Lots of interesting back story to 43 with ghost towns, LRN 135, and LRN 139. There is even a couple derelict Signed County Routes near vicinity of Alpaugh as per standard in Tulare County. Probably wasn't the best idea to do 43 in the fog but it certainly made the really dull stretch in Kings County way more interesting.
I made an update to the existing CA 43 article. New is a third segment which is a drive on what was the original route Legislative Route 135 between Hanford and Corcoran. The original LRN 135 was never part of CA 43 and from Hanford followed; 10th Avenue, Kansas Avenue, 10th 1/2 Avenue, and Whitley Avenue to Corcoran.

Nothing regarding an update to CA 43 or LRN 135, this was just an opportune trip today to get some pictures of the original route of the former.
Stumbled upon this photo of the Caltrans Train on former LRN 135 on Kansas Avenue south of Hanford:

That would be one of Amtrak's San Joaquin trains. It is a joint arrangement between Amtrak and Caltrans.

Is it common to have the locomotive painted with the Caltrans insignia rather than the Amtrak insignia?

On the San Joaquins Line I believe all the locomotives are owned by Caltrans and carry insignia.
Yep. Other routes included in this arrangement are the Capitol Corridor (Bay Area to Sacramento area) and Pacific Surfliner (San Luis Obispo to San Diego Via L.A.)
