So, I'm seeing on Wikipedia that Alabama is looking to build two auxiliaries of Corridor X (I-22/US 78/AL 4). One is the Triple Deuce, Interstate 222, the other is 422, which probably won't get built because of...yeah, you know, *COUGHENVIROMENTALISTSCOUGH*, but we'll see.
The "Triple Deuce", Future Interstate 222:

This is the one the eco-social warriors are fighting against its construction. It's set to be connectors near Birmingham and both numbers were approved by AASHTO in 2012. The Triple Deuce is set to be a 2-mile short squirt between its termini at Corridor X (I-22/US 78) and the proposed Future I-422. Future I-422 is proposed as a short chute between Birmingham and Brookside starting at I-20/59/459 and US 11 near Bessemer on its west end and meet up with I-59 near Argo in the east. The Triple Deuce is proposed to meet 422 in Adamsville with Corridor X.
Not sure how this will turn out, but it's long ways away from the earth being turned for the Triple Deuce and Future I-422.
Is Karen Valentine available for the ribbon cutting of I-222?
The Interstate 3DI we are all missing!

If those freeways had been signed as such, can you imagine the budget needed to keep them replaced?
Rick
Haven't heard anything about people fighting the construction of it, but the projected completion date is over 40 years from now, and they've already run out of funding on the first section they're building, though I think that's more due to the mountainous terrain of the area than anything else...

I'm willing to guess demand isn't that high either

There really ain't much development along the corridor, as it currently stands.

I don't get why there are two I-220's when I-420 and I-620 are both available. Yes, I know the rule is you can repeat a number but not in the same states. I still think one of the 220's should be a 420 or 620 just to avoid bouts of confusion, however uncommon.

Well, many DOTs already learned to handle that. Just sign it as I-419.9

Doesn't explain not using I-620 though...
