Title: Have you ever seen a new plaque on a stop sign?
Post by: MisterRoadgeek on January 14, 2019, 09:30:52 PM
I went on a trip to Sedona, Arizona and when down to the national park area and saw this stop sign with a new plaque on it, never seen a stop sign with it. https://imgur.com/FMTjlmn

I'm assuming that's from the Grand Canyon since that's the nearest "National Park?"

I have a feeling someone will eventually post some examples from Canada.

Seen it many times where a stop sign is added. Frequently accompanied by an advance warning sign, which is a much more useful place for the info. Helpful for drivers who have been thru the intersection a few hundred times before. But how long will it stay there?

MUTCD section 2C.62 limits their posting to six months.

Whether or not they're removed in that time frame is another matter.

Sort of like this pharmacy that's been "Now Open!" for the past 3 years?  :-P https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1574843,-75.5269264,3a,75y,257.28h,77.15t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sEbAbpIANM7JTNnfiHeLn8g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

To slightly alter a Mitch Hedberg joke, "they were open, and they are now, too."

I've seen some new signs with flags on them to call attention.  Either on the stop sign itself, the ahead sign, or both.

I could be misremembering, but I seem to recall once seeing a NEW plate posted atop a stop sign where an intersection had been downgraded from a signal to a four-way stop. I can't recall where this was, however.

Off topic, but the street signs mounted on the mast-arm adjacent to the banner are friggin huge!

I sure have, but it didn't look like that. Think of the war flag of imperial Japan.

Back to the topic at hand, the one place in DE that I can think of that recently was converted from a two-way to a four-way stop is this intersection: https://www.google.com/maps/@38.4855659,-75.4782075,3a,75y,96.9h,86.61t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sS1s75TYzKP5Zj-sW7O2HBQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Page 152-153 of the Delaware MUTCD training does say that the advance signage might have a "NEW" or "NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN" tag: https://www.deldot.gov/Publications/manuals/de_mutcd/pdfs/draft/DEMUTCD_Part2_T2_training_021011.pdf (EDIT - I can only think of one I've seen in person, on Delaware Ave in Newark when they added this light (https://www.google.com/maps/@39.681708,-75.7529279,3a,75y,109.79h,84.82t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1srATrSYvti2YRBZXTdb-i2Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656) in March).

Still off topic, but yeah the mast arm street signs in Downtown Dover are really weird, both in placement and size.
