France has had a couple of diverging diamond interchanges before Missouri said they were cool. :spin:
One of them was along A4 in Nogent-sur-Marne, an inner suburb of Paris. It has been reconstructed to a non-DDI over the past few years, the new interchange was officially delivered today, which, according to French TV, 'will end the biggest traffic jam of Europe' (quite a dubious claim).
The French name for a DDI is a 'carrefour à l'indonésienne' (Indonesian intersection), I'm not sure where that was based on... Maybe because Indonesia drives on the left, but so do many countries.
The old DDI

And France has little to do with Indonesia.

Other than the five years Indonesia was under French administration, because Napoleon thought taking over the Netherlands would be a good idea.
This article from Le Parisien explains it: http://www.leparisien.fr/nogent-sur-marne-94130/qu-est-ce-qu-un-carrefour-a-l-indonesienne-24-02-2011-1329058.php
The name comes of course from the largest archipelago in the world and its 17500 islands, where cars drive on the left and all crossroads are thus arranged "to the Indonesian".
Still, it isn't clear why they picked Indonesia and not nearby Great Britain or territories closer to French Indochina (such as Thailand or Malaysia).
Evidently this 'Indonesian intersection' is also named for this left turn movement:

The new interchange looks far superior to the DDI with all movements between A4 and A86 being freeflowing. DDIs work best between freeways and surface streets, not freeway to freeway so this looks like a decent improvement.
