Title: Signed County Route G9
Post by: Max Rockatansky on March 31, 2019, 01:14:38 AM
Took CR G9 to bypass Gilroy this morning.  Nothing really all that particularly outstanding about G9 aside from the somewhat handy bypass of Gilroy.

Edit:  Finished the blog post, didn't feel this was significant to bump the thread back up:

CR G9 (aka Leavesley and Ferguson roads) were the standard way of getting from eastward CA 152 to northward US 101 prior to the 1973 construction of the 101 freeway.  Used it many times in the late '60's and early '70's when I was still in college in SoCal to visit friends in San Jose and environs and to visit buddies at Stanford.  Since US 101 and CA 152 were somewhat of a slog through downtown Gilroy (and full of local cops), G9 was in fact a "godsend", even though it was a narrow (through mostly straight) 2-lane rural road with, IIRC, little in the way of shoulders.  Did see a couple of sheriff's cars and even a CHP or two on G9 over the years -- but it still was a hell of a lot better than central Gilroy!
