Post by: jp the roadgeek on April 01, 2019, 06:27:02 PM
In a dramatic reversal of course, Eddie Lampert, chairman and CEO of Sears Holdings, today announced plans to open 150 new Sears and KMart locations by 2023 in 41 states.  More details can be found in the following post:

I don't think I haven't been to a Sears/Kmart store in over 5 years.

Neither have I, in regards to Kmart. Sears we still stop by on the rare occasion we need to get something that isn't easily found at stores, such as a Simpsons t-shirt.

I actually went to a newer looking store near Annapolis, MD last summer when I was passing through.  Went inside and it was like I was transported to the 1990s, which for K-Mart was an improvement.

This is the first Aprils Fools day "prank" I actually fell for this year. I normally go out of my way looking for them, being on the internet for so long, so I'm instantly cynical of everything I see.

I guess you're lucky I didn't see this until April 2nd :spin:

It is not unbelievable though considering that Kmart bought Sears after declaring bankruptcy which is usually what companies do not do after going through an ordeal.

In my opinion Sears and Kmart lived a long life so its time to move on to the next life.  Walmart and Target are now kings and maybe Kohls or some other stores, but you guys did it to yourselves years ago.

In another 50 years Amazon will be the king and Walmart and Target will be closer to where Sears is at now. Brick and mortar retail will go the way of newspapers – adapt or perish.

In 50 years, Amazon will be bankrupt as they get all their profit from their tax breaks.

In non-April Fools related stuff, I saw a TV ad for Sears on Sunday night. I feel that's the first one in the 2010's I have ever seen.

Well that's quite peculiar.

Well that’s quite peculiar.

It was either this Christmas season or last Christmas season it was noted that they had few if any commercials.  Supposedly they felt that TV advertising wasn't necessary and focused on other ways to advertise.

#1: Even though we are viewing many other devices, and many have cut the cord from cable and satellite, people still watch TV in one way or another, and even subconsciously watch commercials as we fast forward thru them.

#2: The lack of TV ads and focusing on other advertising options isn't driving customers to Sears.

Don't laugh too hard.  50 years ago, Sears was on top, and thought to be too good to fail.  But, alas, they did.

Definitely not a Sears...or a Kmart.

In fact, their website is...well...odd.  When I tried looking up locations, it seemed to inform me of every place Sears has some sort of repair presence.  It almost seems like it's some sort of Big Lots-type store.

Yup as history repeats itself always.  Heck even Rome fell and other superpowers so if great superpowers of history  have bad fates than private enterprises will fall eventually.
