IMO, they should never have replaced it

This bridge was made in 1923, replaced in 1974, and replaced again in 2015. They are replaceing bridges much more often than They used to. During the last replacement, the bridge would not blow up, which indicates that they did not need to replace the bridge.

However, residents near the Arkansas River wanted a larger bridge.

Reading what's in your link said the options for the third life of the bridge could have been cable stayed. I am a fan of "old" bridge designs, and while they didn't use the cable stayed bridge, the Narrow At The Top Arch Bridge design is silly.

Google Maps does not update the new bridge:

Google sources the satellite data from Digital Globe (https://www.digitalglobe.com/products), so they probably will at a later date.

ARDOT seems to be on a "holy crusade" to replace old bridges even if they are still in good condition. Meanwhile, our roads are a piece of crap

Nearby They have in Oklahoma very slow, and infrequent, and insufficient road projects. They are delayed years in to the Future. But They are building bridges Now. The only difference is that these bridges needed to be replaced (and upgraded to have passing lanes also).

Yeah, they should probably fix the roads first before replacing the bridges.
