I recently took a journey on I-8 west of I-5 which contains a small oddity given it was once the original CA 109. The first CA 109 was originally part of Legislative Route 286 which was designated between Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and US 101 in 1959. During 1964 the planned surface route was changed to a planned freeway and designated CA 109. CA 109 was completed by 1970 but the route designation probably was never signed in-field. The original CA 109 became the westernmost part of I-8 in 1972:

A similar "state route stub" situation also existed an hour and a half north, with the original I-605 definition using the submitted 1950s corridor of I-10 in El Monte to I-405 in Long Beach; the portion of I-605 north of I-10 to I-210 was originally proposed as Route 243 and the unbuilt portion from Route 22 south to Route 1 near Seal Beach/Sunset Beach was first defined in 1964 as Route 240.
Did you find the L postmiles?

Unfortunately I wasn't aware them until I started the blog post. Even if I had seen them get a good photo of a paddle is hard to do at speed.

The Sunset Cliffs Blvd video showed only I-8 postings though...
Outstanding spot! If you didn't watch for it it would go right by you.

Do you have the year on the video? Obviously I'll have to make some signage updates on the blogs.
