Driving on the new widened portion of I-95 South in East Haven, CT, I noticed a new 1958-1961 I-95 shield. Must be a contractor error. But, if you're interested it's just after the Exit 51 Frontage Rd on-ramp.
I've seen US Routes posted as State Routes...but this is truly unique. Wish I had a pic.
Any other "new" old specs out there??
Here is as close as I can with google maps...hopefully there will be an updated pic in the future.
The sign is against the wall in the other direction. It's the blue blob in the background.

You know I was just thinking of posting a topic about new signs done to old specs. When you get a chance, get a pic! I would like to see! May be Connecticut is going retro?
There are a few towns across PA that are installing reproductions of old keystone town line signs.
Here's a slightly better street view shot.

Google Maps erroneously attributed the street view images on I-95 South to US-1 South. Those crazy cats.
Those links aren't working for me....

They're all over Arkansas, on I-30 and 40. Probably on 55 too. Only on 2 digit routes, 3 digit routes use a different font.
Yeah, i saw that headed west on the Turnpike back in October and almost did a double-take as i drove by (too bad traffic didnt allow me to try to snap a portrait), but i will try to get a shot next time up.

Ok good...so it actually does exist! For a monent I thought I was seeing things!
This topic was dead for a while, but on my recent trip, i was able to grab a reasonably good shot of this sign...

there was one other in the eastbound Turnpike lane that i saw...i think it was between Exits 15-20 (I couldnt stop for a shot due to mid-afternoon traffic plus mounting concern over some noises from the motor ($800 worth of noises, it tuned out)

Not bad ConnDOT!
wait, that's new? dang! I had failed to catch that from your previous posts. There is an old one on 91 southbound between MA and Hartford somewhere. Maybe two; I think there was one northbound in the same general area.

Right between exits 11 and 12 (unless there's another one).

I need to try and get a better shot of it sometime...

Excellent! Now on the flip side, I have noticed some new NON-state interstate shields popping up on I-84 between Danbury & Waterbury. just regular reassurance markers not on BGSes.
Also, check out I84 WB Exit 11 1/2 mile BGS. Right alligned exit tab WITH liner. Also on CT-8 NB Exit 19 1/2 mile sign as well with right exit tab with liner. The old button copy Exit 19 1/2 mile is still up too (for now anyway)
BTW: CT SIGNGUY...did you see the new I-91 two lane merge to I-95 south? Two drop down arrows on the BGS. Also US-7 SB in Danbury now has two drop arrows on the BGS b/c of the widening there.
Most if not all the I-91 shields between Hartford and Mass line have been replaced with neutered I-91 shields with smaller numbers (picture the I-95 sans state name) so i am not sure what the story was there...if they forgot to include the sate name when making the screens, or if they were pressed for time and had no time to put it in..(some of those older I-91s WERE pretty gnarly-looking...)
Never got to I-84 this trip....and when i got to I095/I-91 split i was on WB 95 so i never saw it from the I-91 perspective (when i left, i took CONN 15....at that time of the day, I-95 makes no sense
the new 91s are probably '70 spec with 10" numbers (15" in the case of a 36" shield)
my guess is they look somewhat like this Montana example.

I don't understand why interstate named shields are bad according to the MUTCD or DOTs? Is it that big a deal?
signs have been getting simpler as time goes on. mainly it's a legibility thing. bear in mind, we used to have state named US shields!
^^^
Certainly true in the private sector:
Kentucky Fried Chicken -> KFC (and back again?)
Federal Express -> FedEx
Kressge's -> KMart
simplifying or just dumbing down?
people are dumb. no denying that.

I've seen several like that for I-90 in NY.
