Title: The end of permissive left turns in CT?
Post by: RobbieL2415 on July 22, 2019, 10:41:06 PM
I've seen quite a lot of doghouse installations around where I live go belly-up in favor of protected-only signals, some for no particular benefit.  Is this a trend elsewhere in the state?

For example, this intersection until a few years ago had a permissive phase.

With your example, it almost certainly went to protected only because they added a second left turn lane.

Haven't seen any changes in my neck of the woods.  Queen St in Southington is a mix of permissive and protected turns.  Both I-84 ramps, Spring St (a double left turn lane), the southern entrance to Shop Rite, and the entrance to Queen Plaza (with Bob's Furniture and Bed Bath & Beyond) are all protected.  A permissive left is mixed in at the north end of Shop Rite plaza.  Everything else south of I-84 is permissive, including Price Chopper/Loper St, OS Job Lot, and Walmart.
