Title: More WV 2 "twinning" in the Northern Panhandle
Post by: muzer on August 20, 2019, 08:27:35 AM
A large federal grant will help finance the expansion of WV 2 in Wetzel & Marshall Counties. Plans are to construct a new alignment for WV 2 from Proctor (Wetzel County) to just north of Kent (Marshall County), freeing up property along the Ohio River where WV 2 is currently located for additional economic development. The project will expand WV 2 to four lanes north of New Martinsville.

Drawing on this comment (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=20943.msg2264268#msg2264268), the new terrain route will bypass those chemical industries, which is huge.

The articles about this project have been poorly written. It's not a true new terrain alignment. All that is happening is that WV 2 is being relocated to the very edge of the floodplain, and in some cases, partway up the hill, instead of through the middle of the floodplain.
