Alec's Technology Connections is a fascinating channel.  This was a great video.

I doubt it, since he doesn't seem to be a roadgeek aside from interest in traffic signals, and his channel focuses on technology in general.

Big fan of his channel. I quite liked this video the first time I watched it.

Very surprising to me how many IL signals are still incandescent. They're exceedingly rare over here.

I think it has to do with the area he's in. Up by where I'm at, there are only 2 incandescent signals I can think of remaining within a short drive. I always thought IDOT (and hence, CCHD and the local towns) were extremely proactive about replacing signals or at least upgrading lenses.

Makes sense. I haven't been to Illinois in about ten years, but from what I've seen on Google Street View, it seems that LED signals are quite prevalent throughout the state. It wasn't until his video that I started to question whether or not I was observing the signals correctly beforehand.

I think I'd seen this video or something before, because within a minute, I guessed that the signal he photographed was 22nd and Highland in Lombard (https://goo.gl/maps/NWdqgZejpfVuoyTR9).  4-laned in every direction, but not with the traffic volume to need it.  Old incandescent bulbs, black paint on mast arms, and faded backplates.

He goes over to Park Blvd and Roosevelt Road (https://goo.gl/maps/TaNS7gX5ytHfYzYF9) toward the end of the video.  I can't pinpoint where the 12-8-8s were documented, but I assume it's somewhere in Lombard because of the gray (faded black) paint on the back of the signal sections.
