Over the past four years I've made numerous trips to Monterey which almost always takes me through Castroville at some point. That being the case I've noticed that Castroville for a small community has a glut of historic highway alignments. The blog below tracks the history of the Legislative Routes and Sign State Routes through Castroville from 1931 up to the present. Interestingly a segment of Merritt Street from Salinas Street north to Preston Road has carried; CA 1, CA 156, CA 183, Legislative Route 22 and Legislative Route 56 at different points.
