The time honored tradition of the  Trucker Salute  (https://www.whas11.com/article/news/local/why-the-trucker-salute-is-a-tradition-worth-saving/417-d6a03b9f-8cbd-4493-be19-1eb3cc8b9943) seems to be disappearing.

Woww, thats a shame its dying out. Back in florida around 2005 on the school bus we would all do the "trucker salute"  for them to blow their horn. The truckers always did it everytime. It was the best. Sad to see kids dont know about it or do it anymore & the truckers also being sad about not doing.

I frequently took road trips to Saint Louis along I-44, one of the busiest trucking corridors in the country. On one of these trips I got at least a dozen trucks to respond. I always sat on the right side of the car, making it easier for drivers to see the gesture.
I don't mean to sound like a boomer, but could phone/tablet's be the culprit?

I think phones could be the culprit in people not looking out the window, BUT I don't not believe its the culprit for this going away, I believe its a tradition that kist didnt carry over into now times. Somewhere between 2006-2009 changed the country in a big way.

We kinda went from interacting with our environment & actually doing things like the "trucker salute"  to just minding our own business & going along our way.

Trucking was quite "sexy" in the '60s, '70s and '80s. Almost everyone thought it was totally sweet. Think about all those songs from Elvis and Hank Williams to "I'm A Truck" and "Once Bitten Twice Shy". Now it's such a widespread occupation that it's just something millions have to do because they need money like working in a warehouse or making fast food.
