I don't know if this belongs here or General Highway Talk, but I'm putting it here to go along with Google Maps has gone insane.
When I looked up airport signs for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton, the streetview has an icon of a man with red/blue 3-D glasses and if you click on the icon it toggles to/from a

Does anyone know how wide spread this is?
Does anyone know how well it works? (I'm at work and I don't have any 3D glasses here! :sombrero:)
I assumed that was an April Fools joke

It's on the streetview pages at the moment, so I was serious. Now, whether the 3D "support" an April Fool's joke or not we'll have to see.
Google Street View 3D, and Google Books 3D, are indeed April Fool's (http://www.vizworld.com/2010/04/google-street-view-pseudo3d/) jokes.

Rats. Both for falling for it and that it was only a joke. Probably what got me is that 3D streetview will probably be done in the future and I'd love to see it. :banghead:
I could tell it's a joke, but at the same time, I hope they keep it.
It's still there.
What other jokes did Google do? The only one I know of is changing the name to Topeka.
Last thing they need to do is enable 'video mode' -- instead of clicking through photostills along a route, it's continuous real-time (or whatever speed you set it at) motion.

They devowelized the Adsense welcome page.
The "3D Icon" on Google Maps Streetview is still there as of this writing.
I would think that they would have removed it by now, if it was an April Fool's joke.
The last time I looked it was still there. What they should do is update their street views. I'd like to see the progress of the NY 112 widening project in Coram(and from what I've heard, it's only in northern Coram).
And I'd love to see high-res imagry in the US.

It's finally gone. For a joke, they sure took their time getting rid of it.
Well, I'm pissed. But since the man is dead, so's the thread.
