and please point out whether there are any specific videos related to roadgeek interests. I saw the thread in 'Urban Planning' about the 'City Beautiful' channel, and that's been one of my favorites for a long time. Another one I love is 'The History Guy', a channel hosted by the best story-teller on the damn planet! Some of his videos would definitely interest roadgeeks, I think, like this one about the history of highway lane markings:
He also has videos on topics like the infamous 1955 Le Mans disaster, and the 1908 "Great Race", the famous road race from New York (west-bound) to Paris.
Another favorite channel that some folks might like is 'Technology Connections', where you can find videos about urban street-lighting and automobile lighting.
Interstate Kyle is probably the most road oriented channel I watch regularly. He features mostly scenic highways which tend to draw my interest more than freeways. Freewayjim and Asphalt Planet have some quality channels but are more oriented towards limited access roads.
Some of the others I'm frequently right now:
- Regular Car Reviews
- Donut Media
- MotorWeek
- Biographics
- Geographics
- Business Blaze
- Channel Awesome
- Cinnemassacre

Yeah, I've seen FreewayJim's channel. His and others like it are especially useful for researching large cities you've never visited but intend to visit. You can make yourself familiar with the freeway system before you get caught up in it.
BigRigTravels. The travels of a truck as live as it can get, except in areas with poor cellphone coverage. This is how I discovered the craIG county sign had been replaced.
For European roads there are several, including but not limited to:
- European Roads (duh!, run by forum member Chris)
- Roads of Europe (also duh!, a.k.a. verreme). He posted many Mexican roads last year.
FreewayJim due to his large following and that makes me one of them. I also follow other roadgeek channels such as BigRigSteve and RoadwayWiz (who may be familiar to users of this forum–he has an account here).
A lot of these are user pages, not actual channels...

I forgot to mention AshphaltPlanet and Last Week Tonight. On the other hand, don't mention Bend Over Productions...it's been something of a fuck-it-and-forget-about-it for me for some time now.
Pinoy Joyride is another one I like if you want to know your way in Manila.
Freewaybrent follows the format similar to freewayjim.
SolarCatcher is scenic too similar to Interstatekyle.
Freewayjim is probably the biggest producer for this type of content.
Though it seems that most if not nearly all of the interesting limited-access highways have been recorded by Freewayjim and others, so the untapped potential seems to dry up, unless they are willing to take more scenic highways that are not freeways. But these are often lesser known and result in fewer views than content from the Interstate or a major city.
A problem for highway timelapse video producers in Europe is that Google is working against you. Your content is much less likely to be suggested to an audience outside of your own country or language area, which suppresses growth and views. The algorithm thinks it is less relevant if a producer is from outside your country or language region, in particular if it isn't English.
For example: I never ever get timelapse videos recommended from other European producers despite me consuming and producing that kind of content. And my biggest audience share is still from the Netherlands despite my content not being in Dutch and the vast majority of my content isn't from the Netherlands.

Regarding the more obscure scenic roads I tend to find that most of that content is in blog form rather than a video channel. I suppose it makes sense, usually the more scenic the road the more often one wants to stop to take photos.
TransCanada Phil is also a cool one to watch given that he does some roadgeek videos from other parts of Canada and its not all centered in the Toronto area. I know in some cases TransCanada Phil has co-produced some of Interstate Kyles videos.
No knock on Jim Georges, but freeways -- especially urban freeways -- are not what hold my interest. I prefer scenic rural roads, be they freeways or surface routes.
I don't know how you all can watch videos of other people driving...I get all the entertainment I can handle just driving places myself. Watching someone else do it without the fun of steering and shifting yourself seems pointless to me. If I want to see the road, I look at streetview.

Sometimes videos exist for what Street View doesn't have, in those instances they can be good for scouting out a road. Prior to 2010 the Google Drivers were going some ballsy places before they were reigned in to mostly modern and well traveled roads.

I don't watch them frequently, but I do watch them, and also some driver's-view train videos, to see places I haven't seen before. Also, I sometimes want to see stretches of freeway that come up in discussions on this forum, or I may need to see the freeway of a large city I intend to visit. For me, that's a big stress reducer. I don't like to navigate a wide urban freeway I've never seen before. Watching freewayjim drive it first is a big help, at least for me.

I can never get enough John Oliver. I have been binge watching his clips on and off for the last few months and I still have a ton I haven't seen.
I just ran across another of The History Guy's road-related videos and thought some other folks here might enjoy it. If you've never watched the channel you should; this guy could read the phone book and make it sound utterly fascinating. In this video he tells the story of the original National Road.

It's not a real-time driving video, though some people appear to find that more interesting than timelapse videos with music. It allows you to see roads, places and scenery you can't just drive to yourself. Who here didn't browse through a Rand McNally atlas and wondered what the road would look like?
Freewayjim has taken huge cross-country trips and FreewayBrent also did an enormous 'tens-of-thousands of miles' trip around the country and Canada.
Though I do believe that if you follow the top 5 or so creators of this type of videos, they have covered pretty much every urban area and scenic freeway in North America. There isn't as much to discover compared to the early years of HD timelapse videos.

The mechanics of driving don't interest me. I don't consider driving to be fun. How the road and the scenery appear
does interest me. I'd rather be on the road in person, and it doesn't matter if I'm driving or a passenger, but if I can't be, then a video is the next best thing.

With freeways I'm kind of take it or leave it given that very little input is needed from the driver. In those cases freeways are kind of a wash given the road features are generally close to universal. With scenic roads, or anything that is two lanes or less there really isn't a replacement for being behind the wheel. Scenery in particular is very different in person and isn't conveyed in video very well I've found.

I'm mostly in the same camp...I'm not very interested in watching road videos and prefer to experience it myself. But I do like driving when I can, it's rarely a chore.
That's not knock the quality of videos out there, since most of it is very good and I know the overall production takes a lot of time and effort. If some particular section is absolutely unique or an unusual event is recorded, then I'll make an exception.
I usually just search for videos that fit a particular interest of the moment or a "how-to", and I'm not much of a subscriber (other than family that's posted a few videos).

Hey there.
I'm the guy behind Interstate411 and first of all, thank you for being a subscriber Route66fan! I appreciate it.
Percentage-wise, most of my videos are of 2 lane backroads, but I do have an extensive collection of interstate videos as well. To correct US71, only 3 of my videos, so far, are done on my bike -- getting stable video on a 750cc motorcycle isn't the easiest thing to do :)
All that said, I welcome all of you to visit my YT channel or site at https://interstate411.us and check it out.
Travel safe, and I'll see you on the road!
Technology Connections is a cool Youtube show to watch
I've been watching Beau of the Fifth Column.
Also the Mystery Guest challenge on What's My Line.
Browsing through Youtube makes you realize how many niche / non-mainstream genres there are that still have substantial audiences. You can come across channels you've never heard of that produce videos that get 1M+ views in a week.
Wikipedia has a list of most-subscribed YouTube channels (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-subscribed_YouTube_channels). I haven't heard about most of those.

Another one that folks here might like is HinduCowGirl (https://www.youtube.com/user/HinduCowGirl/featured). She's a train engineer and she posts a lot of driver-view videos of riding the rails through Scandinavia. I like to put her videos on the TV when I'm not watching anything in particular. The scenery is often breathtaking.
Oh, and I keep forgetting one of the most unusual youtube channels that I watch often: MetalGuruMessiah (https://www.youtube.com/user/MetalGuruMessiah). Don't let the "metal" part of the name fool you, there's a lot of non-metal music featured. He's a visual artist who creates videos featuring old hits and album tracks for which music videos were never produced. One of his most sublimely beautiful, in my opinion, is the one he created for Elton John's 'Curtains'.
Alternate History Hub is a fave channel of mine. Whether you agree or disagree with the alternative timelines being proposed, they are still interesting!
Rick
My top 3 (in order of when I found them) are Matthias Wandel, Big Clive, and Technology Connections. I've been lurking in the thread to see if anyone would mention Technology Connections since a post on the forum of his video about LED traffic lights is how I found his channel. I see that bing101 is the first one to mention the channel.

I'm the same way. When I say I enjoy driving, it means something totally different to what most people would expect it to mean. Regarding road videos, I don't like timelapses or ones with music over the original audio from the camera.
I've found myself watching a lot of MarSpeed lately. The video narrator is pretty vanilla but he has a crap load of Chrysler production facts.
One game/PC channel that I love to watch is Lazy Game Reviews. I can't think of another channel that deep dives stuff that I had on DOS.
Brendan Power a harmonica performer but in his recent videos he has done roadgeek videos from a bike. https://www.youtube.com/user/BrendanPowerMusic/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/BrendanPowerMusic/videos)

Doug DeMuro, Armchair Historian, and some other "educational channels" which touch on geopolitics and business, such as RealLifelore, Polymatter, etc.

I watch Freewayjim, Kyle, and Barbiepoledancer for roads videos. I also watch NintendoCapriSun and SlimKirby for gaming, and NewsActive3 for news stuff.
Tom Scott has a great Youtube show.

Alternate history hub is cool, but I feel like he doesn't delve deep enough into the timelines.
Most of my Youtube favorites are reaction channels:
XMilitary Crimimal, SimbaTV, 2Lit Mafia (and the "his & her" branch Forever 2LIT), NoLifeShaq (and his gf's channel JoJ's Life, and their joint channel Shaq & JoJo), MxR Plays, Fable-Nuclear Reactor, Diesel & Kickz, Knox Hill, MHF Vibes, J.A.M. Reactions, & The Saint Family.
Sports shitposting:
FivePoints Vids, Urinating Tree, The Dumpster Fire (jointly operated by FivePoints & U-tree), Stark Raving Sports, KTO, Flemlo Raps, FunnyMaine, That'sGoodSports (hosted by Brandon Perna), Qwality TV, & SEC Shorts.
Music:
Blues Brothers, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Adam Calhoun, Ryan Upchurch, Knox Hill, & Justin Johnson.
Railroad/model railroad stuff:
Louisiana Rail Productions, freebrick Productions, KatoUSAinc, Union Pacific, Trains Magazine, Model Railroad Magazine, Model Railroad Hobbyist Magazine (and the related Ken Patterson & What's Neat This Week podcast), Scale Trains.com, Walthers Trains, ModelTrainStuff, ck7813, Daniel Cortopassi, jlwii2000, TSG Multimedia, arthurhouston3, & MonsterRailroad.
Other general entertainment:
It's a Southern Thang, Angry Cops, Thereal, Josh Pray, Black Rifle Coffee Company, MBest11x, DJ Rhett, ERB2, Pittsburgh Dad, & yovo68 (in case you didn't know, this is the 11'8" [now +8"] truck scalping bridge)
Railstream. My toddler enjoys watching the live train cameras with me.
Business Blaze has been something I've been into lately and surprisingly good for a laugh.

- Donut Media
- MotorWeek
- Biographics
- Geographics
- Business Blaze

Back roads are far my thing but the Interstate/freeway videos seem to have a larger following. I do a ton of back roads on my page (which is why I still do photos because I stop a lot) and the freeways tend be mostly a drag unless there is a good story to go with them.
I've been watching a lot of SNESdrunk lately. The videos are short, have humor, and feature obscure stuff I've never seen before.
In addition to the ones I already mentioned, non-road stuff I like to watch include...
Marble races. Several channels do this, including Crazy Marble Race (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYAOO-SAasNHv6rtUQhyrlQ) and Marble Race King (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UColoRtbrPiaYh3vBu5u68zw). In the color races and due to my support on the fight against Dravet syndrome (a kind of epilepsy) I root for purple-colored marbles. In the country races, however, I root for Spain :sombrero:.
Brooks Holt (https://www.youtube.com/user/BrooksHolt). Recently discovered this one, he and his mate Elisha go around the country playing mini golf courses. I like to search the course they are playing on Google Maps and follow them. They did a roadtrip to the Southeast early this year, so they have plenty of stuff to post while the lockdown lasts.
For non road channels, I like RealLifeLore and Wendover Productions.
Backroadswest1 is a good one where this group does tours of what they see as underrated places.
Zebra Corner, a TV commercial parody channel. Very NSFW.
https://youtu.be/8mYNIRXg-Lc
Australian F1 podcast The Reserve Drivers, who are criminally undersupported.
https://youtu.be/COBoYlw7Pys
Australian F1 photographer Kym Illman, who often shows a different side of the sport.
https://youtu.be/2XFKJDBbmJ0
Also some other F1-related channels, and a few car and ASMR channels along with some music ones that few if any of you would be interested in.
I've been watching a lot of Business Blaze and Company Man as of late.
Another one I like. Bad driver compilations are ripe on YouTube, but my favorite one is Bad Drivers of Italy (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqYkaHQFrorRCAj2WgH-G5g), not because of how bad drivers are there (you'll be surprised at the amount of clips from Northern Italy), but because I eagerly await for any instance of porco Dio ("God is a pig", saying that is a strong taboo on media) or similar being barked out. There were several compilations where the barking appeared right after the start.

Have you ever been to Barking, London?
I personally like Cinemasins a lot. Some videos are better than others, but he's a film buff like me.
GeographyNow hosted by Paul Barbato, a weekly series on the world's nations, in alphabetical order (currently on "S" and the last segment was on Singapore).
Wolter's World hosted by Mark Wolters, is a travel channel dedicated to his trips with his family worldwide and his special tips for travelers.
And TheAs57 is about world current events and astrology, I have 101 subscriptions on my YT account, and I narrowed it down to just 3 recommendations for you all to check out.
I like the Detail Geek and Ammo NYC cool car cleaning channels.
Jelle Marble Runs for their marble events
Ammo NYC for cars.
One channel that I consistently come back to for content is The 8-Bit Guy (https://www.youtube.com/user/adric22). He focuses on retro computers, tech, games, and oddball items mostly from the 1980s. David's been on YouTube for many, many years, and he's very ambitious with his projects. He has a lot of variety in his videos, which I like. It could be anything including restorations, game development, electric cars, history documentaries, and more. He's even building out a new studio building in his backyard!
Some videos I'd recommend:
I just found my new favorite channel. Brings back lots of fun memories!
https://youtube.com/c/RecollectionRoad
You're welcome. :bigass:
Jessica Kent who talks about what it was like to be in prison, and she's nice to look at too.
Like it or not, Freewayjim is the best in the business. There's a level of detail and flow in his videos that nobody else that I've seen can match. My favorite video of his is 16-37 (I-17 south from Flagstaff to Phoenix). The only area where he falls short is his unwillingness to make videos about mid-sized cities, but I can forgive him because almost all of his new vids each year come from a single long trip, so time is obviously a factor.
Another channel that I love is GeoWizard. His most popular series is his Mission Across Wales, which is exactly what it sounds like: he tried to walk across Wales in a straight line. I also enjoy his Geoguessr videos. Partly because he's really good at the game overall, and partly because he isn't that good with the United States, so it's fun to be able to figure it out before he does when he gets put here.
Alternate History Hub is a favorite of mine. If you like history and some humor mixed in, this is the place!

I love him too. Did you see he did a straight line mission across Norway this past year? That was possibly the best trio of Youtube videos I've watched.
I don't subscribe to a lot of non-road related channels, but I do like Virtual Railfan (I like their Waupaca, WI CN cams), Today I Found Out, Sideprojects, Geographics (those three are done by the same very interesting guy) and a couple of both scary and sad channels about the potential future of Western Civilization - Better Bachelor and Strong Successful Male (both are 'red pill' city about the current situation regarding interpersonal relations). I'm also subscribed to several alt news channels.

I see a lot of channels I watch, but have noticed a distinct lack of one particular channel: RoadGuyBob. Surprised no one has mentioned him yet.
If you like learning about stuff, check out Tom Scott, and SmarterEvryDay, two great channels to learn stuff.
For cool videos of random stuff, check out Daily Dose of Internet, he uploads pretty often, just short compilations of cool videos.
If you like to listen to stuff, and not necessarily wach videos, than there are plenty of channels now that read content from Reddit.
I am also a big fan of roller coasters, so I watch some channels that talk about that industry, and even use computer software to make epic roller coasters that look real.
The most obscure channel I watch is probably a channel called TheBigA, who drives around parking garages. Why? I don't know, but I think parking garages are neat.
I used to watch a lot of channels about analog cameras, but I can't afford any of the stuff they show, so I stopped watching them as much because Gear Acquisition Syndrome is a thing.
And lastly, I also find space stuff fascinating. Lots of cool channels about space, rockets, and all that fun stuff, like Scott Manley, and the Everyday Astronaut. With all that SpaceX is doing, there's a lot of cool stuff getting uploaded.
Markiplier and Jacksepticeye.
I subscribe to a few, some of my favorites.
Stoned Gremlin Productions (aka The Cinema Snob): a lot of different series, but overall hilarious reviews of bad movies.
Angry Video Game Nerd: James Rolfe plays and reviews awful video games.
Homemade Wanderlust: a super cute girl documents her long haul (like Pacifuc Crest Trail) hikes

I went to the same private school that Mr. Rolfe went to.
Oof, it looks like I forgot about Good Mythical Morning. My sister is a fan. She lets us watch it with her.

That's awesome! I got to meet him at the Portland Retro Gaming Convention a few years back. Nice guy.
For road related channels: I like Road Guy Rob and Freewayjim
I also like passenger railways and a couple of those channels: DJ Hammers, RMTransit, Simply Railway
Some aviation channels too: Captain Joe, DennisBunnik, DJ's Aviation, Jeb Brooks, Josh Cahill, Nonstop Dan, Paul Stewart, QFS Aviation, Sam Chui, SAN Spotter and Simply Aviation
Also subbed to a couple of tech channels like LTT, Austin Evans, Dave2D, Bitwit and Hardware Canucks
And some music related channels: MusicalBasics, Rousseau, Sheet Music Boss, Toms Mucenieks and Twoset
I'll group some other ones in this miscellaneous category: Alternate History Hub, Charles the French, City Beautiful, Company Man, Emperor Tigerstar, Half as Interesting, ibx2cat, Only in Japan, PolyMatter, Practical Engineering, Real Engineering, Real Life Lore, ShivVZG, UnlistedLeaf, Wendover Productions, WonderWhy
I'm really surprised that nobody else has mentioned takemytripdotcom (https://www.youtube.com/user/takemytripdotcom). You guys should really check him out.

I can see that.
I've been watching a lot of videos on Out of Spec Motoring as of late. Great roadtrips, and very informative about what it's like to travel in electric cars (not just Tesla, either).
For car stuff, JDM Masters takes a nice in-depth look into Japanese car culture from an English-language perspective, with lots of detailed information. It's a bit niche, but it's very well presented.
