Title: License plate quiz
Post by: mgk920 on March 02, 2020, 09:30:27 PM
I did this a number of years ago and had a lot of fun with it, so with the continually ongoing design changes that have happened over those years, I thought that I'd do it again.

(Note, by using the word 'state' in here, I am also including Canadian provinces and the territories and any other agencies that issue regular plates in either Canada or the USA.)

What state(s) issue regular automobile license plates with the following elements in their current default designs:

1 - The state's flag?
2 - A tree or trees of identifiable species or unaltered parts thereof?
3 - A non-tree plant or plants of identifiable species or unaltered parts thereof?
4 - The state's geographic outline?
5 - The website URL of an agency of the state?
6 - A sailboat (can include ocean-going sailing ships)?
7 - A non-human mammal or mammals of identifiable species?
8 - A bird or birds of identifiable species?
9 - A bridge?
10 - A weather phenomenon?
11 - The state's official seal or a part thereof (not on a validation sticker)?

We'll see where this goes, Enjoy!

Ohio has four of these in word form:
1 - The state's flag - it's called the Ohio Burgee
2 - A tree or trees - Buckeye
3 - A non-tree plant - Red Carnation
5 - The website URL of an agency of the state? discoverohio.com

and also has the  state's geographic outline in the first O

9. Add Michigan for one of their standard plates.

But it is not the 'default' design, you have to specially request it.

Rhode Island does not show a sailboat/ship.  Only a wave and an anchor.

To 5, add Pennsylvania.  Their standard plate has visitpa.com on it, which is the tourism website run by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

4 - The state's geographic outline?

4. Florida/Nevada/NJ/NY

Technically speaking, the Nevada outline is not a part of the standard license plate's artistic design, but rather is the raised "dot" that separates the first three digits/letters from the last three digits/letters in standard-issue plate number. If you opt for a personalized plate on the standard plate design, there will be no Nevada outline.

Several other states are that way, too (ie, Minnesota).
