Title: Kenny Rogers dead at 81
Post by: kevinb1994 on March 21, 2020, 03:06:04 AM
It was reported late Friday/early Saturday that music legend Kenny Rogers has died at the age of 81. Coincidentally, I had recently asked Alexa to play "˜Rainy Night In Georgia' when we got the weather report that showed it raining (and, unfortunately, flooding) in SEGA.

Guess he folded. RIP Kenny.

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run

One of his last videos (Thanksgiving 2019), he was losing strength in his voice.

This appears to have been coming.

I'm inclined to concur. He has had health problems for a couple years.

Depends if it was man-made or not.

We used to have Kenny Rogers-themed slot machines at the casino I worked at as a slot attendant. They played "The Gambler" when you hit a bonus. One of the other slot attendants said if he was ever forced to play a slot machine, he'd play that one, because you could get all the lines by betting a paltry 15¢. (Max bet was only $3.75.)

My parents were big fans of Kenny Rogers & The First Edition. They were frequent performers at the Blue Grass Fair when it was held at the Red Mile harness track in Lexington. We went to the fair every year, and usually the day they were playing. So I grew up listening to "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town," "Something's Burning," "Just Dropped In to See What Condition My Condition was In" (as Sandor alluded to above), and "Reuben James." I probably still have the First Edition albums my folks had packed away somewhere.

In my day, I always thought Kenny Rogers was much older than he really was, because he was prematurely gray. Same for Steve Martin.

Rest In Peace to another legendary musician.

He had some incredible music, and he will be missed.

Interestingly, I was actually first introduced to "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town"  by this Freewayjim video a few years back:

Freewayjim has actually introduced me to a lot of great music over the years.

Just this past weekend (and mostly due to the Coronavirus) he decided to start uploading videos for the year! He did say that he was hoping to make a trip to the Boston area but with this coronavirus who knows, he may have to compromise by doing a bunch of out-takes and remixes to which he's no stranger to.
