Title: Is Wisconsin adding speed cameras to the interstate?
Post by: hobsini2 on April 15, 2020, 01:23:19 PM
I was doing a trip on Google Street view in the Beloit area when I came across this on I-43 just east of Hwy X. There are plates in the road and cameras on both sides. Is this a speed camera set up? I never noticed this before. The image is from August of 2018.

I haven't heard anything about Wisconsin adding speed cameras. Maybe they're traffic counters related to the nearby construction on I-90?

No.  These are for traffic counts and conditions.  Speed cameras and red light cameras are illegal in Wisconsin.

Those are scales that are used for automated big-rig truck weight limit enforcement.

WisDOT installed a set of them on both sides of US (now 'I-') 41 on the Oshkosh Causeway when it was seriously upgraded in the early 2010s, too.
