Title: Opposites Attract?
Post by: Tonytone on May 12, 2020, 12:26:19 AM
This feed will be about road things that happen opposite to what they were originally intended.

For example:

-Highways with perfectly built Merge lanes but people cut across early & disrupt highway flow.

-Highways with more lanes then it needs.

-Poorly built roads in dense areas.

-Bike lanes in non-bike friendly areas

And what ever else you guys can think of.

Remember it has go be opposite of what its supposed to be.

I've been noticing that a significant amount of traffic still cuts across pavement lines to merge as early as possible on the new auxiliary lane between exits 4 and 5 on I-87 north.  Of course, there wasn't always an auxiliary lane there (it's only been around since October or so), so people probably aren't used to it yet.  I'm withholding judgement on that until we go through a normal tourist season with it, and who knows how long that will be with the coronavirus around.

Mine is a protected right turn and traffic wanting to directly merge into the left lane.

Coming N on Kings HWY (FM989) to Richmond Rd (FM 559) in Texarkana TX  traffic wants to stop and get into the far left lane immediately at the  intersection. The turn is protected no stop or yield required.  Traffic SHOULD go around into the right lane then merge left as possible after completing the turn and passing the solid white line. .

Here is a bike lane in a non-bike friendly area. Bike lanes on an 8-lane wide boulevard (2 of which are bus lanes) in the middle of suburbia.

I was thinking it was gonna be a numbers thread, like how I-22 took over US 78 and I-78 took over US 22.

To give my local pet peeve example, the amount of people that don't understand "Form Single Lane/Alternate Right of Way" (https://www.google.com/maps/@39.3047795,-76.7474806,3a,74.3y,92.57h,85.55t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sX9lGy5PP9lNDoiBfGDBD4A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!5m1!1e1?hl=en) when getting onto 695 NB from 70 EB.

The idea of course being that everyone stay in both lanes all the way to the merge point and then do a "zipper" merge, but the amount of times that people want to merge into the left lane early, or refuse to let you in when it's your turn to "zipper".  :banghead:
