I am looking for mapping software that one can readily edit/update to capture routes traveled. I found some threads from several years ago that noted there was "clinched route software" at one time but evidently that is no longer available.
If there's a recent thread on this topic pls direct me to the link.
Meanwhile - I took a shot at mapping my local area - southern Los Angeles County - using the free MyMaps feature in Google (and included the "credit" in my map). It is relatively easy to use but has limits - only one shape for highlighting routes, though several colors are available.

The old Clinched Highway Mapping online travel mapping system has been replaced by the newer Travel Mapping system, http://travelmapping.net/ That has its own limitations (such as on coverage of local or county routes), but OTOH covers not only major and many lesser routes in the U.S. but also has strong coverage of Canada and Europe, and is improving its other international coverage.

Garmin portable GPS units have a trip log feature that can convert tracks to routes and output to GPX files in combination with the free Garmin Base Camp software.

And lack of unsigned route coverage, with rather arbitrary criteria on what counts as “signed”.
Thanks all. I will take a look at these options. I've seen others use the mob-rule county map (including the one that color-coded them based on number of trips through the specific counties).
My ultimate goal is to create a sort-of customized Rand-McNally or AAA-type map that shows only the routes I have traveled (to include passenger rail and transit lines too). I am including numbered routes + those routes associated with decommissioned numbers, such as Figueroa St. which was US 6 back in the 50s.

Thanks - I have signed up for Travel Mapping but never get the "confirmation email" I need to get started. I could not find a "troubleshooting" contact name to get it resolved.

Some email providers have an issue with getting emails from the forums for some odd reason. Gmail is one of them that has this issue.

Yes, contact me or @rickmastfan67 if you have trouble getting going with Travel Mapping.
I'll note a few things:
- The registration that has the problem with email being blocked is for the forum only. No registration is needed to submit your travels to the site, just email a list file to me or upload it to GitHub. I recently put a "news" item on the forum that has the email address to contact (travmap@teresco.org) to contact with forum registration problems. @rickmastfan67 or I can activate your forum registration even if your email provider won't accept the automated emails.
- There has been a major effort this summer to improve user documentation about how to submit your travels, which was previously just inherited from the old CHM project, and it's always accessible through a new "Get Started!" link in the banner at the top of all TM pages.
- We always welcome suggestions over on the TM forum.
