Title: Live traffic TV feeds
Post by: TheHighwayMan3561 on June 17, 2020, 04:49:19 PM
Back when I was a kid living in south Minneapolis, there was a TV channel that showed 24/7 live video of Twin Cities traffic camera feeds, with the Minneapolis School District operated 88.5 FM (MnDOT's official traffic report partner) playing over it. I have no idea if this channel still operates; my guess is no, but I could only ever get it in one room of one Minneapolis apartment.

Did anywhere else have something like this?

MoDOT has (had?) something similar for the Springfield area on cable, except with classical music for the audio. My aunt, a teacher, had a snow day tradition of turning it on and enjoying the juxtaposition of cars skidding and crashing into one another while classical music played.

When KIRO 7 and KZJO 22 were testing their subchannels very early in the digital TV era, they ran outdoor cameras for the test.  KIRO's was usually outside Sea-Tac Airport, but sometimes they ran a feed of the Seattle skyline.  KZJO ran a very choppy image of traffic outside their studios, but they improved the feed and now they have three subchannels.

Little did I know when I visited Skykomish last year that a rail fan group has a live stream in that city.  I could have seen myself on a live stream.  I know of no other one closer to home that I can see on my smart phone.

I've found traffic cams for most of the 50 states. My favs are CA especially Donner Pass & Los Angeles tho most of those are snapshots. Donner is a live feet, LA is snapshots.
Others I watch often are DE, my home state & MD, FL has alot of live feed cams as does GA, IL, MI.
I especially enjoy the cams when there is a significent snow event.
