What are some examples you've seen or photographed of exceptionally old/disheveled BGSs, or worse still, BGSs with whole sections missing?

Holy shitoli.......HOW has that sign remained?? That might actually be the original sign put up with the highway was first built! Day-um!

Actually, it didn't look too bad (https://www.google.com/maps/@34.8823497,-114.7777426,3a,16.7y,134.97h,90.45t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sJ0uEm7AfjXXB-OVqI9P4MA!2e0!5s20150401T000000!7i13312!8i6656) as recently as 2015...

That's the sad part...the exit tab and bright green indicate that it's not original (despite the button copy US 95). Other newer CA signs have peeled as well. See this thread for examples: https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=26882.0

It's a newer retroreflective sign to which they bolted a button copy shield. Presumably the shield underneath was the wrong highway number or the wrong type of shield. I posted some up close pics of the sign a couple of years ago on here.
Another NC example: The Old Salem (https://www.google.com/maps/@36.0936172,-80.2437781,3a,15y,117.61h,91.19t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1snm9J12TAdOdb6UNGomiMMw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656) BGS on Salem Parkway in Winston-Salem......Fading and becoming claimed by nature, slowly but surely
I'm going to construe "BGS" as including smaller signs of the same variety. With that said, DC has been replacing old signs lately, so this one might not actually exist anymore. It did earlier this year when I most recently used that ramp:

Hasn't the Salem Parkway been rebuilt since this GSV imagery was taken in Jul 2018? It should be open now according to NCDOT: https://www.ncdot.gov/news/press-releases/Pages/2020/2020-01-31-salem-parkway-business-40-winston-salem-reopen.aspx

Part of it was, as well as the exits were renumbered. Not sure if the sign was replaced in that span or not
As of last year, there are still some old button copy BGSes on I-75 in the Toledo area
There are several along CA-134 eastbound approaching Pasadena, for the stub of the Long Beach Freeway that goes south from the 134/I-210 intersection. I think these are old enough that they were originally marked CA-7 South, then To CA-11, then To CA-110, and finally with just two street names. Several layers of greenout of various ages and shades are apparent.
Here's one of them: https://goo.gl/maps/qWaGvLrKXWp9m59u6

I've seen this same type of peeling on overheads in the St. Louis area - maybe the lettering MODOT uses is susceptible to peeling?
I think those are probably just really old. I remember around 1995 or so there were some truly ghastly-looking button copy signs (fading to almost sea green, with noticeable dark shadows where old legend had been removed) in that segment of I-29. So, assuming that MoDOT replaced those shortly thereafter, the retroreflective signs could be old enough to drink.

I've noticed it around St Louis too, so, as csw noted, it's a recurring problem (https://www.google.pl/maps/@38.74154,-90.441081,3a,28.3y,33.49h,98.15t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sB7iFYZ76Fbs-6tZrXiAEaQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/) with MoDOT. Could be among their first generations of retroreflective BGSs. Wikimedia Commons has some great (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Interstate_44_%26_US_50_East_at_Exit_276,_Interstate_270_exits_(1989).jpg) old (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Interstate_270_South_at_Exit_12B,_US_40_West_%26_US_61_North,_Wentzville_exit_(1990).jpg) pictures (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:US_40_West_%26_US_61_North_at_US_67_North,_Lindbergh_Blvd_exit_(1990).jpg) from this area, by the way.
The centered exit tabs are a tip-off that those are pretty old; that was a staple of MoDOT's button-copy signage. The practice must have carried over to the beginning of the retroreflective era, until the standard right-side tab practice took hold.
Also a kind of interesting note is that MoDOT signs of that era seem to use Enhanced E-Modified, decades before research suggested that it performed better than standard E-Modified.

Or, like MN, MO used centered tabs well into the 21st Century. The centered-tab signs along the western end of I-494 only date to about 2005 or so.
Centered were already in the minority by the time I moved to MO in 2007.

Blurred out because of the numeral. Google often mistakes route shields for license plates.
