Title: Variations of "move over" sign in each state
Post by: STLmapboy on July 12, 2020, 02:44:36 PM
You've seen them. Signs that warn you to move over for vehicles, like this one (https://www.google.pl/maps/@38.7579167,-90.4645437,3a,22.3y,323.26h,91.14t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sBtDCBEo8bJWK_BTg3YPx0A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/) on I-70 in St Louis. Each state has a slightly different variation on the wording. As the link shows, Missouri's example says "State Law: Move over or slow down for stopped emergency or maintenance vehicles." Illinois is similar (https://www.google.pl/maps/@38.2372748,-88.0319851,3a,22.3y,304.17h,93.82t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sRMQMLhvxzD5GPZWTmR4hNg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656/), saying "Notice: Move over - slow down for stopped emergency or maintenance vehicles, it's the law." Some states are a bit unique, such as Tennessee (https://www.google.pl/maps/@35.1820077,-90.0177748,3a,21.1y,39.14h,88.7t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sgaDP5Yzdsh5Na_ogviKn2A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/), saying the standard "State Law: Move over for stopped emergency vehicles" and noting a "$500 maximum fine" at the bottom. South Dakota (https://www.google.pl/maps/@43.0961081,-96.7959966,3a,24.1y,36.07h,89.21t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sYNi8e0dKCYODu47xi0PM0w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656/) uses the less wordy approach, with "State Law: Move over for stopped vehicles flashing yellow lights."

What are some examples in your state and others?

That's a lot of font size changes. Here's another example (https://www.google.pl/maps/@36.5666451,-77.5677645,3a,19.6y,46.52h,97.03t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sXciqPcrqSG9MYW8VhuulzQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/) on 95 south of Emporia.

The text is "State Law: Move over or reduce speed for stopped emergency or service vehicles with flashing lights."
Bonus: North Carolina's (https://www.google.pl/maps/@36.5255129,-77.585382,3a,23.1y,206.35h,92.27t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s2zXg5rjAesaXTZThUbQ_Xg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/) is "State Law: Move over or reduce speed for stopped emergency vehicles"
