Title: Business Interstates That Don't Serve That Many Businesses
Post by: JayhawkCO on September 01, 2020, 12:20:51 AM
I drove the Business Spur for I-25 in Aguilar, CO today (for a the first time in a loooong time) and noticed that the whole town has probably five or less businesses that any traveler would be interested in.  They have two liquor stores, a food store, a café, and a bar.  Their only gas station has closed.  Are there any other business routes with less appeal to the general traveler?

These are being / have been recently removed, but -

Business I-40 Winston-Salem
Business I-85 Greensboro - Lexington

Mostly freeway / expressway rather than a surface route.

How does that mean they didn't serve businesses?

I clicked on this thread specifically to mention Aguilar!

Maybe he meant that it isn't Texas, so you can't have a business whose address is on a freeway.  That's the point of a business Interstate route, right?  Giving a freeway a surface road alternate that passes through the business district, as opposed to being another freeway alternative (I thought even-digit 3di's served that purpose).

Looking at you, too, BR-80 in Sacramento and BR-85 in Spartanburg.

I-85 Business in Spartanburg is very similar to Texas interstates - frontage roads throughout that are integrated into the exits.

It's going to be hard to beat I-40-BL at Glenrio, TX/NM (https://goo.gl/maps/JfeQeP9BNUGMmPiF8) (unincorporated ghost town, population 1).

Some runners-up in Texas:
I-20-BL through Westbrook, TX (https://goo.gl/maps/BgVGm7BhZS71dfpeA) (pop. 203)
I-20-BL through Trent, TX (https://goo.gl/maps/irovB1DRcqoxY4Nk6) (pop. 337)

Even BL 80 in Sacramento (especially on the Elvas Freeway) has quite a lot of businesses lining it, and they can be accessed by the exits off it.

Added information:  AADT (2018) = 39

That's an average of one vehicle every 37 minutes.
