Title: Stretches of road with vividly colored asphalt (outside of MS, WY, etc)
Post by: index on October 03, 2020, 12:22:11 PM
Besides states like Mississippi, Tennessee, Wyoming, and others, which are known for sometimes having very bright brown or very reddish asphalt, are there any incidences of stuff like this in states where that isn't such a common occurrence? Looking for very distinctly colored stuff, preferably not just a tinge or a tint but if it's super noticeable than it should be good. Lanes colored with thermoplastics or paint (e.g. bike, bus lanes) also don't count.

Intent is different from this thread: https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=19102

A lot of roads in the California Mojave Desert have a reddish tint.  Kelbaker Road and parts of US 95 come to mind.

Southeastern Idaho.  Might be an effect of using red volcanic rock as salt during the winter, but asphalt there can also have a reddish tint or an interesting aggregate in the pavement mixture.

Pretty uncommon in St Louis County, but there are some red examples (like Seibert (https://www.google.com/maps/@38.5584304,-90.2995202,3a,60y,285.68h,77.17t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s98MzVkuBULq1v65jgOVq0g!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/) and Musick Aves (https://www.google.com/maps/@38.5316244,-90.3461938,3a,60y,297.48h,80.37t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1slWVbCjNOrh09p5j1bkVcBA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/) in South County). Illinois has more red pavement than Missouri, like the East St Louis mess (https://www.google.com/maps/@38.6193892,-90.1658015,3a,76.1y,2.22h,78.65t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1swTY-wNe40_OgI0H5ORbUdw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/), IL-3 in Columbia (https://www.google.com/maps/@38.4549929,-90.2203602,3a,75y,331.56h,87.94t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sp7xADbzjFkMlLxO6_qGlCw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/), and 55 between STL and Springfield (https://www.google.com/maps/@39.2564262,-89.6412701,3a,60y,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1ssuLUjk8cIqam1sTkGZZHuQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656/). The city of St Louis has darker than usual (https://www.google.com/maps/@38.6374282,-90.2554441,3a,60y,301.27h,91.76t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sP-oHKy6aRuUmzhre4HiJEw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192/) stuff, but not red.

All the red examples were originally gray when paved, but the iron hue has been brought out over the years.

How did that happen?

I’m assuming you mean something like #8ab595 (Hex Color Code)?
