Title: 🛣 Changes to the California Highways Website – Aug/Sep/Oct 2020
Post by: cahwyguy on October 11, 2020, 06:18:41 PM
This period is shorter one, focused on update. This update includes the August and September headlines, the actions of the legislature, and the August 2020 CTC meeting. Of particular interest are the legislative actions, which saw the authorization of relinquishment of a number of routes, but NOT the passage of the bill related to Route 241.

I'll let folks read the change log: https://cahighways.org/wordpress/?p=15973 or https://www.cahighways.org/changes.html

I'll wait patiently  :poke:

OK, done.

Ready, set, discuss.

The Washington Street I-215 bridge project is of particular personal interest because I used to live around there. It was inevitable now that they are apparently done with the Newport and Barton Rd bridges in Grand Terrace. Last I was down that way, it was festooned with low height warnings and the interchange has always been substandard with lots of weaving. Still, it's a major crossing and there aren't many detours when the bridge gets closed for demo: you'd probably have go on old-old-395 on La Cadena and, I dunno, M St? which is a bit out of the way and much lower capacity. Maybe Cooley? Neither seem appealing.

That CA 91 improvement project between 55 and 57 -- how much can they reasonably do? Meanwhile it will snarl CA 91 worse than it already is.

I couldn't find any plans despite the project's planned completion date being by Summer 2022 (https://www.ci.colton.ca.us/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_12152015-442?MOBILE=ON). No idea about what's meant by the lawsuit with San Bernardino Associated Governments.

This is on page 13 of the link.

I-215/Washington Street Interchange Improvement

  • City is in discussion with Sanbag to settle the lawsuit.
  • Caltrans and Sanbag proposed a project to replace the bridge with an estimated amount $29.5 million (Caltrans -$27.615 M and Sanbag - $1.8 to $2.0 M).
  • Estimated end of construction — July 2022

The only other info I found was on the Ludwig Engineering website (http://www.ludwigeng.com/service/street-highway-projects)

Work included the design plans and construction documents for widening Washington Street, Mt. Vernon Avenue, designing a new north bound off ramp, widening the Washington St. Bridge, improving 13 signalized intersections, traffic control and construction staging plans in a highly congested business district. Work included construction staking.

Sadly, the page only includes a current aerial photo of the interchange with the bridge highlighted and none of the design. I agree the interchange is a mess.

For what it's worth I had Jake mock up some CA 440 and CA 740 shields without borders.  I haven't found any evidence that either route was actually field signed before being replaced with CA 44 and CA 74.  I'll post something somewhere on this board when they come in.
