Made a stop at the Knight's Ferry Covered Bridge today. There is some substantial 19th Century Franchise Toll Road stuff here which ended up being a public roadway until fairly recently. From the Gribblenation Facebook page:
I made a visit to the Knight's Ferry Covered Bridge on the Stanislaus River of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Foothills this morning. The Knight's Ferry Covered Bridge is located in the community of Knight's River which was founded in 1849 on the banks of the Stanislaus River. Knight's Ferry was the Stanislaus County Seat from 1862 to 1872.
The current Knight's Ferry Covered Bridge was built in 1863 and was a replacement for a 1857 wooden bridge which was destroyed by way of a flood in 1862. The Knight's Ferry Covered Bridge was a private Franchise Toll Facility before becoming a public road in 1884. The Knight's Ferry Bridge was closed to vehicles in 1981. The Knight's Ferry Bridge is 379 feet long and features a Howe Truss design.
