I don't remember where I saw it, but seem to remember what appeared to be a HUGE font for one of the BGSs in Southern California for "Las Vegas". As I recall, I, a person with 20/10 vision at the time, could see it (or at least make out the "shape of the words") for at least a couple miles. It may be that I was accustomed to reading longer California names and "Las Vegas" may have really been only bigger or it might just have seemed so. So much for what I think that I remember. What is the truth of the matter?
The angle subtended by 10 mm letters at 20 feet (what someone with 20/10 vision could read) would be approximated by a whole meter at 2000 feet and 5 m at 2 miles, so I don't believe that my recollection is exactly correct. But, what is the truth? How big are the fonts? At what distance are 20/40 drivers meant to be able to read the signs?
I assume you don't mean something like the word "South" on the sign on the left (https://goo.gl/maps/ZSfHDEG1bXvrCdcLA)?

"Las Vegas" sign is certainly a font larger than the one for "SOUTH" shown seems to be.
