I have heard many songs on the radio get played after being released on albums that got played out for weeks before dying out completely to never be heard again.
Then there are songs that get played for a couple days, that get moved off the playlist for whatever reason.
Mick Jaggers Yes I am Lucky got overplayed due to the success of the singer from The Rolling Stones performing it, but two months later died on WNEW in NYC.
I am looking specifically for those who got played a couple times that you liked and never got played ever again on mainstream radio.
For me I have two songs in the 80s that I liked and never made it to the list:
Absolute Beginnings by David Bowie was a good song that I liked, but the program directors didn't.
Picking up the Pieces by Difford and Tilbrook ( former Squeeze members) is another for me.
What songs for you did you like that almost made it to airplay but didn't?
I remember a lot of songs in the '80s that never made it above #30 on the chart that got a few plays on a small AM pop station called WCLU but were hardly ever heard again. Maybe they peaked slightly higher, such as "Dr. Heckyll & Mr. Jive" by Men At Work, which got to #28. I heard this song a few times on WCLU but not on the big stations around here.
Most of the other songs like this were songs I thought were OK, but then I decided they were much better than I first thought, after I hadn't heard them in years and everyone else forgot about them.

Those are often the best songs because you don't get tired of them due to hearing them overplayed constantly.
The one story I must share is when they had American Top 40 in the 80's, they played this song called "White Horse" by the Danish group Laid Back. I don't think I ever heard it on regular radio, but Casey Kasem would play it on American Top 40. Eventually it dropped off the charts, so I went decades without hearing it. I then decide to go to the casino at the Northwood exit on I-35 in Iowa and play the 80's on 8 channel on SiriusXM in my car and it's the song that's playing. Then I get to the casino and they're playing it there. This was the night I won over $300 on the slots.
I thought it was weird hearing "White Horse" on the radio at all outside of 'American Top 40'. I remember one morning (probably when my mom drove me to school in 5th grade) I got in the car and "White Horse" was on WCLU. I thought that was weird even though the song was peaking around that time.
Totally different chart - US Country - but my local country station played the Sarah Darling song "Home to Me" a bunch in 2013 and I loved it so much I made it our wedding first dance song...and then it completely disappeared. Turns out it only peaked at 34, but weirdly the local station played it as if it charted higher.
Die Young by Kesha, it might've been on for a couple weeks before it got pulled because of the sandy hook school shooting

that song was so delightfully weird and quirky... tho i've listened to the entire album that came from ('feeling cavalier') and couldn't really get into their other stuff.
your tagline reminds me of someone who used to post in mtr like... 15 years ago. cool guy.

Man that's lame. That's almost as dumb as Clear Channel's edict post-9/11, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clear_Channel_memorandum
