Title: California SR 2 - Angeles Crest Hwy portion - best time to drive?
Post by: M3100 on March 27, 2021, 11:35:56 PM
One road segment I have not been able to drive is the Angeles Crest Highway portion of SR 2.  Are there times of the year when the road is open for through travel, maybe later in the spring, after the snow melts but before 'fire season' intensifies?

Spring is definitely the ideal time for me to go.  It gets really dry up there in the summer and often hazy.  The Boy Racer/Tuner crowd tends to come out in summer also which can get really frustrating to contend with if you want a leisurely drive.

Looks like it will be a while until I can drive this; the CalTrans site notes the road is still closed for emergency repairs.

Here are some pics I got west of Wrightwood yesterday (4/9/21):
