Title: Things that you enjoy
Post by: tolbs17 on July 09, 2021, 07:12:54 PM
When a pretty girl hugs me.

When I get offered a spot.

Having a girlfriend. (Don't have one now though, I'm too busy nerding out talking about road signs I guess.)  :spin: :spin: :spin:

Maps, of course-one part of being a roadgeek.

Music is another-I know some things that the average listener may not know right off the bat.

i enjoy my job. there i said it.

it combines two of my favorite things: listening to music, and getting paid. i get to see interesting cars all day, get free stuff all over town, it pays surprisingly well, and i enjoy the interactions i have. if i have made you smile while you're sitting at the light, cool. if it makes you think about painting your house, even better.

i see people go by me all day, some of whom probably have unsatisfying jobs, and i'm just ... what's not to love? i get paid to play air guitar on a streetcorner, have a river in my backyard, and i'm visited by random cats.

Of getting hugged? Of getting offered a spot? Of playing hide and seek?

The answer to all three of those is probably not.

I imagine it's Facebook-style personal photos, which we don't really need people to start posting here. If I wanted to see photos of people dorking around with people I don't know, I would sign into Facebook more often.

Not all at the same time, obviously...

- My kids' smiles, laughter, joy and the sparkle in their eyes
- When my kids ask questions I can answer
- When my kids ask questions that make no sense
- When my kids ask questions and we both learn something new
- Time with my wife
- Time with my wife when the kids aren't around
- Friends and family
- Driving to new places
- Making like 5 green lights in a row (or more)
- A curvy road with no traffic
- Travel, preferably somewhere different
- Taking time to enjoy the scenery
- Food that I don't get to enjoy often enough
- Food that my kids enjoy because I suggested it
- Homemade dessert
- Beautiful things and boring things and sometimes ugly things too
- Champagne, because it elevates everything and I don't turn red when I drink it
- Photography...getting the right shot at the right moment is satisfying
- Going outdoors all day and not getting sunburned (this is somewhat rare)
- Getting the job done right the first time
- People who give a darn without being a jerk about it
- Letting people enjoy things (though sometimes I forget this)
- Letting someone else enjoy what I've done and seen before
- Drawing, when I find time for it, even though I have a fragile ego in this department
- Music that I enjoy and sometimes it's satisfying to unexpectedly hear it elsewhere
- Making some electronic music on an iPad (doesn't qualify me as a musician, but so what (https://youtu.be/3VGp_qBtZbg)?)
- Petting dogs and cats that aren't trying to annihilate you
- The start of a Formula 1 race
- Finding bliss
- Exercise which didn't wear me out nor cause regrets the next day
- Getting recognized for doing some minor thing which didn't really need recognition
- Old clothes that still fit
- Old stuff that still works; especially if they were dormant for years
- Knowing That The Man Can't Put No Thing On Me
- Playing in the dirt sometimes
- Maps are cool too

My week-end cocktail.

Either Saturday afternoon or Sunday afternoon, I stop what I'm doing, make a cocktail, get out a small snack of nuts or cheese or dried fruit or something, and just relax for a bit.  It's surprising how much such a simple thing can make my week more enjoyable, make me feel human.

Most people who know me off forum know I'm into distance running (as in I actually enjoy it).  I also enjoy things like writing, I actually look forward to doing stuff like highway articles.  For some reason I've always loved to go to movies and I find it oddly relaxing.

I'm not a kid anymore, but big earthmoving machines, cranes, and long trucks with lots of axles are still way cool. There's a place in Las Vegas where you can drive an excavator for 90 minutes (only $285) and I'll probably do that within the next few years.

Driving on a smooth, extremely low traffic highway. It's especially cool when I'm driving down the Tri-State or I-90 at really off-peak times and there's just no traffic.

Totally.  I remember leaving from the southwestern tip of Michigan early on a Sunday morning to drive back home to Wichita, and I was able to maintain 75 mph the whole way across south Chicagoland on the Borman, Tri-State, and I-80.  So-o-o-o-o-o nice!  (especially considering the other direction had been at rush hour on a Friday afternoon)
