The New England weather has been pretty bad this summer. It's been raining nearly every day it's crazy. I've heard that 2009 was quite wet and I know that recent years have been quite dry. Was the rain normally this bad?
It's pretty unusual. However, by having all this rain, we haven't had a day above 85° in two weeks, and none are expected for the next 10 days (edit: except today, but barely). As I've mentioned in other threads, I actually prefer this weather over days above 90°. (On the days it does rain, it usually doesn't rain the entire day.)

It always comes as a surprise to me that I get more thunderstorms in Utah than a good amount of the rest of the country (SLC averages 35 thunderstorm days a year) given how much drier it is here. Of course, a good amount of those thunder days are because of storms that drop little to no rain - a rather rare event in New England and other more humid areas of the eastern US.

Yeah I can't think of a time in New England we've had lightning/thunder without rain. The "dry" thunderstorm days you get at any one location are just due to the storm missing said location, so you get no rain but can hear the thunder. Definitely a different world meteorologically than what you get west of the Rockies.
