OK, I know this is kind of getting ridiculous, but I was reading responses in the "Where did you go to college" thread and thought of this.
What are the closest interstate highway, US highway and state highway to your college? If you attended more than one college, use the first one attended. If you have never attended college, use the location where you were living on your 19th birthday. If outside the US, use that country's equivalents to the highway categories if you prefer.
For Notre Dame, the closest interstate is I-80/90, 1 mile away
Closest US highway is US 31, 6 miles away
Closest state highway is IN 933, bordering campus
AZ 101 which was about 100 feet west of Scottsdale Community College. I never did bother enrolling at ASU (ended up way too busy with career work) but AZ 202 was about a thousand feet away from the north boundary of the campus.
UMass Lowell:
Interstate: I-495, 2.5 miles away
US route: US 3, 1.5 miles away straight-line distance (it's a freeway, and the closest point is between exits)
State route: MA 113, on campus; cars have to wait every 30 minutes (pre-COVID) because of students crossing and the class schedules
Marquette University:
I mean, they have a major interchange in downtown Milwaukee named after the University so I-43 and I-94 which both somewhat form boundaries for the campus to the east and south respectively.
US-18 runs just north of campus.
WI-57 is about ten blocks west of campus.
Hope College, Holland, MI
I-196
US-31
M-40
Business routes:
Bus I-196
former Bus US-31 Holland (at the time I was in college); current Bus US-31 Muskegon
Bus M-60, Niles
Intercounty:
A-2
Since I'm in college right now...
Closest Interstate: I-65
Closest US routes: US 52/231, in a concurrency
Closest State Route: Either IN 26 or IN 43, not sure which one is just a bit closer
Valparaiso University:
It's right on US 30/IN 2
Closest Interstate: I-80/90, 8 miles away
Alpena Community College:
Interstate: I-75, 57 miles, as the crow flies.
US: US 23, 1500 ft more or less.
State: M-32, 1.25 mi.
I-75/85 and US 29/78/278, both of which run through campus
Kettering University
I-69 and I-75/US23... I-475 a bit further.
Mesa Community College (AZ):
Then (Mid 1970s)
US 60/80/89/AZ 93, Main St, 1.5 miles north.
AZ 87/93, Country Club Dr., 2 miles east.
AZ 360, Superstition Fwy, ended 3 miles west at Rural Rd.
Now
US 60, Superstition Fwy, southern edge of campus.
AZ 87, Country Club Dr., 2 miles east, but only the interchange at US 60 is ADOT-maintained and signed between McKellips Rd. and the Pinal County line.
AZ Loop 101, Price Fwy, 1 mile west.
AZ Loop 202, Red Mountain Fwy, 4 miles north.
University of Virginia: I-64 is a short distance to the south, within five minutes by car depending on where on Grounds you are. US-29 Business and US-250 Business run directly through Grounds; their bypass routes are adjacent to North Grounds. VA-302 is the unsigned number assigned to all on-Grounds roads maintained by VDOT.
Duke: I-85 is just over a mile or so to the north. US-70 Business is adjacent to East Campus and US-15/501 (bypass) is adjacent to university property west of West Campus (most notably the golf course). NC-751 is adjacent to West Campus (and runs through Duke Forest) and NC-147 cuts between East Campus and Central Campus.
Then: University of Arizona (Tucson)
Closest Interstate: I-10 and I-19
Closest SR: AZ 210
Closest US: 191?
Now: Northcentral Technical College (Wausau)
Closest Interstate: I-39
Closest US: US 51
Closest SR: WI 29 and WI 52
I-85
US 76-123
SC 93-133 (both since truncated away from campus)
Worcester Polytechnic Institute:
Interstate: I-290 a half mile to the east (and the interchange with I-190's southern terminus is the next exit north/east on 290). Honorable mention to I-90/Mass Pike & I-495 to the south & east, respectively.
US: US 20 down in Auburn by the Pike.
State: MA 12/Park Ave bordering the west edge of campus (with honorable mention to MA 9/Highland St a block off campus to the south).
Parts of Campus are adjacent to US 41 DLSD .
About a mile from 90 94 Dan Ryan and 90 Skyway though maybe a little farther to skyway exit.
Historically alt. US 30 went through campus.
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
US 150 and US 45 run concurrent along the edge of campus.
I-74 is 1.3 miles away away, and I-72 2.8 miles away.
IL 10 is a mile and a half away, and IL 130 two miles off.
Michigan Tech
I roomed in Wadsworth Hall, which is right on US-41. For most of my time there, I was in the east wing, 1st floor, in a room at the north end. Google Maps measuring tool says that's about 65 feet to the US-41 center line.
The closest state route is M-26 in downtown Houghton, at the south end of the lift bridge, about 1.5 miles away.
At the time I was there, the closest Interstate was the south end of I-535 in Superior, Wisconsin, about 214 miles away. Today, it's the I-41/I-43/US-41 interchange in Green Bay at 205 miles.
Closest Interstate: I-75, a few miles away
Closest US Highway: US 441, borders the campus
Closest State Highway: FL 24, FL 26, FL 121 all border the campus
Interstate: I-85 is about 20 miles away, although some argue that either I-85 or a child 3di should have been built to serve the city itself, and one of the major routes from I-85 is planned to be upgraded to Interstate standard.
US: All of these routes are adjacent to campus. If bannered routes count then US 78 Business is the closest to the center of campus. For mainline routes US 29, 78, 129, and 441 all overlap on a route that is at the edge of campus.
State routes: The SR designation of US 78 Business for the segment above, is SR 10. The SRs of the mainline US routes is as follows: US 29-SR 8; US 441-SR 15; and the same route also has the SR 10 Loop designation. SR 15 Alternate is not adjacent to campus, but many of the university's fraternity and sorority houses are located on it, and thus the campus bus system serves that street.

Clarkson University:
-State Route: NY 345, 0 miles
-US Route: US 11, 0 miles
-Interstate Equivalent: ON 401, 20 miles (crow flies)
-Actual Interstate: I-81, 53 miles (crow flies)
The two schools I went to.
UPenn:
I-76. About 1/2 mile from the east edge of campus
US 13: Passes through the campus on 38th St
PA 3: Passes a block north of campus on Market St
CCSU:
I-84: Passes about 3 miles north of campus
US 6: See above (concurrent with I-84)
CT 71 and CT 175. Form the western and eastern perimeter of campus
For Northern Illinois University:
State: IL 38 is on the south edge of campus.
Interstates: It's about 2 miles from campus to I-88.
US: It's about 12 miles west of campus to US 51 and about the same south to US 30.
MD 22/US 1/I-95
TX-11, TX-24, and TX-50 run adjacent to the campus. TX-224 runs along the western edge of the campus property a mile or so west of the campus. IH-30 is less than ten miles to the south.
Stanford University:
Interstate 280 slices right through the ~14-square-mile campus. That's about 13 square miles more than the University really needs, but Leland Stanford donated his entire farm, and forbade the University from selling any of it -- except the new Interstate offered a rare opportunity to get paid for some excess campus lands, which probably made the eminent domain proceedings among the friendliest ever.
Bordering the campus, and also closer to its core: CA 82 (El Camino Real), and Santa Clara County G3 (Page Mill Road).
Not where I went to school, but Autoroute 740 cuts through the Laval University campus in Quebec city.
I currently commute to school from farther away in Columbia, but from the heart of the Mizzou campus:
Interstate: I-70 runs through the north side of Columbia, about 1.75 miles away.
US: US 40's concurrency with I-70 is slightly closer, but standalone US 63 is about 1.8 miles to the east.
MO: Campus is surrounded by state highways, with both MO 163 and 763 about a third of a mile away on either side. MO 740/Stadium Boulevard runs east-west about a half mile south of campus.
My first college was near the interchange of I-44 & I-240, which also have duplexes with US 62 & OK 3. I finished college at a university on US 77, a couple miles west of I-35 & OK 66.
IL-43
US-45
I-290
Shawnee State University, Portsmouth, OH
US 23 runs right along the west side of campus (also US 23 Business terminates at US 23 at the west end of campus)
OH 73/OH 104 terminate together at US 23 on the west end of campus
I-64 down in Grayson, KY
Sacramento State University has US-50, CA-99, CA-51, I-5, I-80 and I-305 near the campus
From a roadgeek standpoint, I have a real treat on campus, as Interstate 75 is flowing, traffic and all, literally right in front of the campus (not even trees hinder the view). :D
So that takes care of the interstate, but traveling south briefly will lead you to I-75's Exit 333, which is where GA 52 resides.
And traveling north for a slightly longer distance will land you at I-75's Exit 336, intersecting US 41/US 76.
So ultimately my college is no more than 2 miles from any of these highways (travel-wise), and physically I-75 is essentially right there. :)

You don't even need GA 52 for a state highway ... I-75 is unsigned GA 401.
Appalachian State:
NC 105, 194, and US 221, 321, 421 all run through town.
I-40 is the closest interstate 35 miles away, staright-line, about an hour fifteen drive down 221.
I-77 is the closest interstate by driving time, at 50 mins
Interstate: I-76 (1/4 mile)
State Route: PA-230 (0 miles)
US Route: US-322 (2 miles)
I'm the third person on this thread to have attended California State University Sacramento (May 1988 graduate):

But the exit for CSU Sacramento is and has been US-50 and CASR-16 as I said earlier.
Interstate - 35
US route - 2 - it formed the northern boundary of campus and for a good part of my 2nd-4th years was visible out my dorm window
State highway - 35
University of Louisville
State: KY 1020; runs through campus
US: US 60 Alt; runs through campus
Interstate: I-65; immediately adjacent to University owned campus... runs through campus when expanded to include privately owned student housing
For fun...
Railroad: Three separate freight railroads run through campus. One of which runs through the student activity center (more than just a pedway).

Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Michigan:
*Bus. US 131/M-20 runs along part of campus
*Northland Drive (unsigned Old US 131) runs through campus, complete with MDOT adopt-a-highway signs.
The US 131 freeway is west of town, and the closest Interstates would be I-96 and unsigned I-296 down in Walker.
ULM: Monroe, Louisiana
Interstate: I-20 - just under 2 miles to the south
US highway: US 80 (Desiard Street) - some of the older buildings on campus are right next to or on Desiard. US 165 (Sterlington Road) is a very close second due to the edge of farthest out commuter lots being one block away from the road.
State highway: LA 840-6 (Forsythe Ave/Forsythe Bypass - 1.5 miles northwest. Close second is LA-594 (Millhaven Road), which is right next to I-20.
I went to college at U of St Thomas in St Paul, MN. I-94 (and US 12) was, at most, a mile from my dorm (Ireland Hall).

I-495 (by itself, not with I-95) about 2.7 miles north and west

M-45 is adjacent to the campus. I-96 is about 5 miles to the north. I-196 is about 10-12 miles to the south and also to the east. US-131 is about 14 miles to the east.
There is also a downtown Grand Rapids campus. Us-131 runs right through the heart of it, I-196 is less than a mile to the north and M-45 ends about 2 miles to the west.
I go to the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Guess where it is. (It's just north of downtown.)
US-18 and Wisconsin Highway 32 run directly through campus, on State Street.
Wisconsin Highway 145 runs 0.8 miles away from campus. When it was the Park Freeway, it actually touched campus, and the campus parking complex was built on the cleared right of way for the freeway. There are signs that I suspect directed motorists to the old routing of 145 still near campus.
I live a mile from the nearest interchange to Interstate 43, at McKinley Avenue. I live a mile from Interstate 794, and 1.7 miles from the Marquette interchange with I-94.
I am also two miles from the intersection of Wisconsin Highways 38 and 59. I wonder why there are so many roads here, it's like it's a city or something!

Utah's SR 282 is a multi-segment route located entirely within the University of Utah campus. Matter of fact, most state colleges and universities in Utah have or once had a designated state highway serving their campus.
University of Delaware:
State route- DE 273 cuts right through the middle of campus, DE 896 and DE 4 border the campus to the south. DE 72 borders on the east.
US Highway- US 40 is about 4 miles south of campus.
Interstate- I-95 is a mile south of campus.
My first baccalaureate degree was at UCR, immediately adjacent to (then) CA 60 and US 395. When I started in '67, 60 was still signed as a US highway, but that changed within a year. 2nd one (a BPA) was from USF (that's the University of San Francisco, not U of South Florida!); took classes at both their SF and Sacramento campuses; the former about equidistant from US 101 (the Lombard section) and CA 1 (Park Presidio); the latter, across the American River from Sacramento State, was close to US 50 as well as CA 16 (would reach it from the Howe Ave./CA 16 exit). Masters' from Sonoma State U.; closest highway was the multiplex of US 101 and CA 116. PhD (public policy), PSU (Portland); my grad-assistant office overlooked I-405; US 26 marked the other (north) end of campus. I-5 was a mere 6 blocks east as well.
If we're being technical, my college was directly on a (still unbuilt) extension of CA-14 through the San Fernando Valley. If we're only counting reality, then it wasn't too far from CA-118.
UC Santa Cruz:
State Route: 1-3 miles away from CA 1, CA 9, and CA 17. CA 100 is an honorary mention of a freeway loop connecting CA 1 and CA 17 which remains unbuilt in part due to UCSC.
US Highway: 20+ miles from US 101. Need to get on CA 1 east, exit onto CA 129 which will end at US 101, nice way to clinch that highway I guess.
Interstate: I-880 at San Jose, just get on CA 17 north which becomes I-880 at the I-280 junction!
University of Iowa:
-Interstate: I-80, two miles north of campus
-US: US 6, runs through campus
-State: IA 1, also runs through campus
Northern Illinois University:
-Interstate: I-88 two miles south of campus, I-39 12 miles west of campus
-US: US 30 about 12 miles south of campus
-State: IL-38 and IL-23 run through town. IL 64 is on the north fringe of town about 5 or so miles.
The US45/US150 duplex weaseled its way through the north side of my campus.
Not in college, but I'll cover the closest one to me:
Appalachian State University:
US-321 and 421 passes about a half-mile north of the campus, with US-221 passing about a half-mile east of the campus.
I-40 is about 55.5 miles south of the campus, with I-77 53.7 miles east of the campus, I-81 50.6 miles north of campus, I-26 95.6 miles away, and I-85 78.8 miles away
Penn State:
I-99 is the nearest interstate, though it did not exist when I went there.
U.S. 322 is the nearest U.S. route -- it was on Atherton St., which is now the business route, while I attended school. It is now on the Nittany Expressway. U.S. 220 runs with I-99 past the university.
PA 26 is the one-way couplet of Beaver Ave. and College Ave. that separates campus from town.

Utah's SR 282 is a multi-segment route located entirely within the University of Utah campus. Matter of fact, most state colleges and universities in Utah have or once had a designated state highway serving their campus.
Most or all of the roads on the grounds of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville are considered VA-302 and maintained by VDOT.
Similarly, VA-314 is the designation for the roads serving Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Montgomery County.
VA-321 is the access road to the College of William and Mary. Not clear to me if that includes the roads on the William and Mary campus or not.
VA-331 serves James Madison University.
These four photos tell most of the story for Platteville.

US-151 is the main highway, travelling northwest up from Dubuque towards Dodgeville and Madison. WI-80 and WI-81 (two-lane roads) connect Platteville to Galena, Montfort, Lancaster, and Darlington. WI-11, south of Platteville is the main east-west highway across the southern edge of Wisconsin. And US-61, US-20, US-18, and US-52 are all relatively nearby as well. You have to go pretty far to reach an Interstate, which I've written about in a previous thread.
^^^
I see no US 52 sign above. Was that last photo taken after the road was rerouted out of downtown Dubuque?
Um, I-76 I guess? Theoretically US 13 as well?
