That might've been me saying that. NYC on I-80 EB east of Youngstown in Ohio is my favorite control city in the state.
My first thought when reading this thread is to try to find a sign on I-80 in Youngstown with NYC on the bottom, and in a location where an Ohio city would be on the top (so not too close to the PA border), and a Pennsylvania city in the middle (so not too far west of Youngstown). The one I linked is the only one with NYC on the bottom that satisfies those conditions. For some reason, ODOT doesn't list any PA cities on I-80, instead opting to use "I-376" and I-79" on distance signs.
The first possibility that came to mind was I-15 through the Nevada-Arizona-Utah border area, but looking at GSV it looks like Littlefield is too small to mention if you're south of Mesquite or north of St George.
Then I got all excited when I found one on US 287/385 in Springfield CO... until I realized it was the OP. You'd think the Oklahoma panhandle would be good for finding stuff like this, but Texas seems to not like putting more than 2 cities on its mileage signs out there.
I'm looking to see if I can find any in Kansas that have Kansas-Oklahoma-Texas, since Kansas tends to be more a fan of 3-line mileage signs. So far, nothing, but I did find an Oklahoma state line sign that was clearly installed by KDOT (https://www.google.com/maps/@36.9983252,-100.9965233,3a,16.6y,266.86h,87.79t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1shK50O8XNzoQ0jGs_gJCXdw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192) (ODOT never uses wooden posts, nor "STATE/COUNTY LINE" verbiage).

Brookport would make more sense than Vienna, if IDOT were doing to switch the Controls on those southern Mileage signs
I could have sworn there was one that has Metropolis/Paducah/Nashville listed, but didn't see one on GSV. It may just be a "mental" thing, where I saw US 45 driving and instantly connected the dots that is where Metropolis is
Couldn't find one on the Southern end of I-57 that gets me Cairo/Sikeston/Memphis on the same sign. Heck, I don't think there is a single mileage sign in IL with Sikeston mileage on it (Sikeston is used as the SB control at the Cairo/US 51/IL 3 exit)
Also checked I-255 SB in the Metro East...There is the goofy sign before crossing the Mississippi on the Jefferson Barracks Bridge that lists both Memphis and Tulsa, but since the last exit in IL has already been passed, there are only those 2 cities on the sign. Again, I thought there was another one somewhere south of I-55/70 but north of Columbia, but did not see it on GSV
At least in the Southern part of the state of IL, those are the 3 that would have a chance to have cities from 3 different states on a single destination sign, but no dice
Kinda cheating for I-64 EB: Belle Rive, IL; Evansville, IN; Louisville, KY. Cheating, because the first is signed "Belle Rive EXIT"

On US 30 WB just past Delphos, Ohio there used to be a sign for Van Wert, Ohio; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Chicago. It was removed for whatever reason around 2016. I got a photo of it back around 2010 fortunately, but street view from back in the day has it (https://goo.gl/maps/L8hhmbTjr7Mc2aMb9). I spent a good while looking around the Utah-Idaho-Wyoming border region, as there are a number of highways that might make potential candidates, but couldn't find any up there. The best chance is probably if there's a mileage sign somewhere on eastbound US 89 through Logan Canyon, where you could maybe get something like Garden City UT-Montpelier ID-Jackson WY.
Better success on Utah 30 westbound from Snowville, with a mileage sign for Malta ID, Park Valley UT, and Elko NV. Turns out I actually have a photo from when I drove it 2 years ago:

[pedantry]
US 89 is correct.
"South Lake Tahoe" refers specifically to the incorporated City of South Lake Tahoe, California.
Locals commonly refer to "South Shore", "North Shore", "East Shore" and "West Shore". The casinos in unincorporated Stateline, Nevada are in the area referred to as South Shore but most definitely are not in South Lake Tahoe.
There are some green signs on I-580 and I think on I-80 with references to "North Lake Tahoe". They are referring to the strip along CA 28 and NV 28 from Tahoe City, CA to Incline Village, NV that we call North Shore. Nobody outside of Caltrans or NDOT would ever use the term "North Lake Tahoe" though. The common "North Shore" is too vague for a green sign and "North Shore of Lake Tahoe" is too wordy, thus it is compromised/contracted to "North Lake Tahoe".

Google Maps suggests NE/IA 2 -> I-29 -> US 36 -> I-72 between Lincoln, NE and Champaign, IL, instead of I-80 to I-74. Guessing it's because I-80 takes you a bit north east of Lincoln.
Might there be a sign on I-75 north of Knoxville that lists the next Tennessee town, followed by Lexington, KY, and Cincinnati, OH?
Overall, I think north/south roads in KY and TN would be good candidates for that (both somewhat thin states in that direction, at least compared to east/west).

Not that I can remember, but there has long been a sign on US 25W in LaFollette, where the route splits from TN 63, that has arrows pointing left to Jellico and Cincinnati. And for years, it was spelled "Cincinatti" but I think has been corrected. (I have a picture of the misspelled sign somewhere).

Are there any signs after Benton Harbor that mention any Indiana towns (Gary, Michigan City, etc.) on them? There are a few towns in Michigan past Benton Harbor - that, plus Chicago and an Indiana town, would make for a three-state sign.
Just GSVed it and didn't see any.

US-50 Sacramento has distant signs with 3 states.
Placerville, CA
South Lake Tahoe CA, NV
Ocean City, MD

Would anyone, other than a road geek, take US 50 between Sacramento and Ocean City?
They lost a bet
My first trip planning trial between Sacramento and Ocean City gave three alternatives, none of which involved US-50 for any considerable distance.

Someone mentioned the TN/GA/AL corner earlier. I found these signs on I-24 in Chattanooga (just west of the I-75 split) that show distances to Nashville (TN), Birmingham (AL) and to the I-59 junction (in GA).
Deserves an honorable mention.
A great potential candidate here (https://www.google.com/maps/@41.8297013,-80.747149,3a,42.6y,82.84h,82.84t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1suUKpVbsuN_alN26U1azhLA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!5m1!1e1), but unfortunately Buffalo, NY (135 miles from here) isn't used here. I was going to say it's not used in Ohio period, but it turns out that's not quite true (https://www.google.com/maps/@41.9214054,-80.5519104,3a,15.5y,90.53h,87.47t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sOZY-vnJgteUH38Yex_YZ9Q!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!5m1!1e1). Unfortunately, the sign with Buffalo is only about 2 miles from the PA state line and past the last exit in Ohio.
I'm sure there must be at least one 3-state sign on I-10 between New Orleans and Pensacola, given that it goes through those little "tabs" on the south end of both Mississippi and Alabama - is that right?

I hate to ruin the fun here, but South Lake Tahoe is definitely not in Nevada.
[pedantry]
US 89 is correct.
"South Lake Tahoe" refers specifically to the incorporated City of South Lake Tahoe, California.
As an overnight guest of the El Dorado County Jail, I can confirm that gonealookin is also correct.
Crossing the Poplar Street Bridge (I-55) in St Louis has signs in opposite directions each featuring three different states. It's not distance, but I think it's cool that six different states are signed.
