Title: If highways didn’t post miles by state…
Post by: OCGuy81 on December 09, 2021, 06:48:44 PM
If an interstate just counted overall miles, and didn't reset after crossing state lines, which exit number would be the one closest to you?

I'm not on the interstate system, but if US 97 used miles based on her entire length, Bend would be approximately Exit 224, give or take.

Still exit 4, as my closest interstate is a 3di (I-225).  Assuming you might also mean for 2dis only, the exit from I-25 to I-225 would be exit 662.

Depending on whether I-80 or I-94 took priority, it would be either exit 2133 or exit 1265.

Assuming exit numbering would still run from south to north, Exit 1047 on I-95.

Exit 19 on I-71, which would become exit 117.

To make this more interesting, my exit numbers in a few more categories:
- Closest exit on I-75: Exit 1196 (I-275, current exit 17)
- Closest exit to my former home in the St Louis area: I-70 exit 1335 (MO 94, current exit 228)
- Closest exit to my college: I-65 exit 797 (IN 26, current exit 172)

EDIT: Since I like bigger numbers, additional thing to add in: If highways don't reset mile markers/exit numbers at state lines AND are posted in km instead of miles, what would your closest exit number be?

For my 4 categories above (in same order), it would be:
- I-71 exit 188
- I-75 exit 1925
- I-70 exit 2149
- I-65 exit 1282

Exit 384 on I-75.

This game is going to be way more fun for people outside peninsular Florida.

Somewhere around exit 1300 on I-69: It depends on where it would get routed or if it even gets built.

Nearest interstate for me, I-5 with its junction at OR-22 in Salem would be exit 1049

Just for fun, I did some major junctions of I-5 in Oregon and Washington.

US-199: Exit 852

I-105: Exit 991

I-205: Exit 1085

I-405: Exit 1097

US-12: Exit 1173

I-705: Exit 1237

I-405: Exit 1258

I-90: Exit 1269

US-2: Exit 1279

Canadian Border would me MP 1381

I'd be between Exits 169 and 173 on I-84 (Exits 938 and 942 if we include Western I-84 mileage)

The I-95/I-91 junction would be Exit 1378
The I-84/I-91 junction would be Exit 189 (958)

I-90: Exit 1269

US-2: Exit 1279
I-90 is currently exit 164, and US 2 is exit 194, so there's something missing in your exit numbers here.

Hmmm, thanks for that. Error in my calc I guess.

The interchanges actually near me would remain the same because they're either 3di or state routes, so instead I'll look at 2di interchanges in Atlanta:

I-20 at I-75/85: I-20 exit 1252, I-75 exit 717 (I-85 would have exit 161 if its numbers were used)
I-75 at I-85 northern split: I-75 exit 721, I-85 exit 165

which would put me around what.. 727? (nearest to exit 269)

For me, it would be somewhere around Exit 1454 on I-75.

Going the reverse, since highways in Spain count overall mileage and don't reset upon crossing a regional border, I would be near exits 294 and 297 on A-23.

Fun fact: There is no need to do this at all in California.

462 miles in NM, so MM 731.

Nearest for me would not change (I-12 exit 65).  But the closest I-10 interchange, which is about 20 miles away (10-12-59 split) would be I-10 exit 1947.

I guess that would make me at exit 727 (Harmony Road), which is normally exit 265.

I'm currently at exit 13 of US-23 in Michigan.  New exit number would be 1083.

In a hypothetical scenario where I-94 is extended along the 402, then the 401 east of London, ON, my exit (Highway 8) would be either 1708 (mileage-based) or 2748 (km-based). :sombrero:

Using I-75 at exit 150 it would come out to be exit 1541. I'm only 246 miles from the northern terminus of I-75. My mileage for I-75 comes out to be 1,787 miles.

I think in that area I-80 has priority because at least on the Illinois side it uses I-80's exit numbers but then they reset at the state line for both highways since they are running concurrent. But at one end you have to exit to stay on I-94 and at the other end you have to exit to stay on I-80 so who knows.

My answer would depend if you count CA 15 as part of I-15 or not.

I-15 alone: Exit 1295
CA 15 and I-15: Exit 1301
