My girlfriend and I are on vacation in Myrtle Beach. Thanks to the idiocy that is Google Maps (wanting us to use I-40), I got us lost and we ended up having to use US 701 much of the way. I will trust the GPS from now on.
So I have two albums here, because I used two different cameras. Once I filled up my Pentax K20D's card I switched to my Canon compact. The general route was I-95 -> I-40 -> back roads -> US 701 -> US 701 -> US 701 -> US 701 -> SC 9 -> SC 31 -> US 17.

I've taken I-40 to Myrtle and it hasn't been a problem. If you were staying in South of NMB, then I'd agree. We usually go to Cherry Grove Beach, and I typically take 40 to 140 to 17.
Unfortunately my girlfriend and I didn't exactly agree on the I-40 idea (our roommates got there about 2 hours before we did taking I-95 and US 501), which is why we went down US 701 instead. The rest of the trip went well enough though, and I'll post my photos from the trip back when I finally get down to processing them.
I am processing the Myrtle Beach roadtrip photos, and have combined the day 1 albums into a single album of processed pictures, which can be found here:

Gradually getting more photos posted to Picasa...eventually I'll move some to Flickr, but right now Picasa seems to be my best bet given the sheer quantity of photos I have from this trip. I've added two more folders:
Days 2-4 (just random odds and ends from the Myrtle Beach area): http://picasaweb.google.com/coredesat/MyrtleBeachRoadtripDays240708To0710
Day 5 (currently incomplete, covers US 17 BUS -> SC 544 -> US 17 -> US 501 -> SC 38 -> I-95 -> US 64): http://picasaweb.google.com/coredesat/MyrtleBeachRoadtripDay507112010
Day 5 has a whopping 300 photos in it, which is why I haven't moved them over to Flickr yet!
