It's not the first time a car's lost control in wet conditions and plowed into a fence on a bridge.

Several years ago, an SUV crossing the Morrison Bridge lost control and swerved into the guardrails and went over, into the Willamette River. The driver was able to escape.

Just this year, a portion of the fence on the Hawthorne Bridge was missing and patched with an emergency guardrail. I hadn't heard anything in the news about it, and if a car lost it and plowed into the fence, I'd be impressed, considering the Hawthorne's 1-2-1 lane configuration, and the curb onto the sidewalk's pretty high.
