Title: Two cities with 3+ same I/US route numbers, but opposite type
Post by: SkyPesos on February 26, 2022, 02:14:27 PM
Thought of this after clicking on so many Raleigh area GSV links this month. Both St Louis and Raleigh have Interstate or US highways numbered 40, 64 and 70. In St Louis, it's US 40/I-64/I-70, while in Raleigh, it's I-40/US 64/US 70. Any other city pairs with something like this?

Sioux City IA - I-29/US 20-75
Atlanta GA - I-20/75, US 29

This one is a little bit of a stretch, but here goes:

Greater Memphis, TN:  I-22, US 61, US 78
Hamburg, PA:  US 22, PA 61, I-78

Bet here's a better one:

Memphis, TN: I-40, US 70, US 79
Washington, PA: I-70, US 40, I-79

former examples:

Memphis:  I-40/240, US 70
Frederick MD:  I-70, US 40-240

Knoxville: I-40/140, US 70
Baltimore: I-70, US 40-140

Chicago: US-45, I-90, I-290

Houston: I-45, US-90, US-290

Another one involving Asheville:

Denver, CO: I-25, US 40, I-70
Asheville, NC: US 25, I-40, US 70

And this one is a bit of a stretch since it requires combining Raleigh & Durham, but screw it, it nets a 4-fer:

Denver, CO: US 40, I-70, US 85, US 87
Raleigh-Durham, NC: I-40, US 70, I-85, I-87

(Side note: Interesting that most of the examples in this thread involve the 40/70 combination.)

When I first found out that I-40 and US 70 are parallel routes, I found it fascinating that the opposite is true too in this case, as I lived within 60 miles of I-70/US 40 my entire life so far and knew that those two are parallel routes since pretty early on in my road geek hobby.

On another note, if we include former US routes, we have I-90/US 10 in the western half of the country, and I-10/US 90 in the eastern half, which could lead to some pairings. First one that I thought of:
Jacksonville: I-10, US 90, I-95
Coeur d'Alene: US 10, I-90, US 95

Chicagoland/NW Indiana: US 20. US 30. US 45. I-80
Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex: IH 20. IH 30. IH 45. US 80.

St Louis: US 40. I-64. I-70.
Memphis: I-40. US 64. US 70.
From the OP, Raleigh and Memphis happen to share those routes
And thanks, Big John - I had the 70s reversed initially for STL and Memphis - now corrected

I think you have US 70 and I-70 reversed.

If you count US 64 Truck for 64, and/or you count Hendersonville as part of the Asheville metro area, you can also include Asheville NC as a city with I-40, US 70, US 64.

If we count the I-84's as 2 different routes:

Hartford has Eastern I-84, I-91, and CT 15
Salt Lake City has Western I-84, US 91, and I-15

Of course, both have US 6.

Very close but no cigar:

US 80, I-20 and I-30 all go through Dallas.
I-80 and US 20 go through Hammond, IN, but US 30 just misses a few miles to the south.

If you count the whole metro area of both (which I'm allowing in this thread), you can get 4 route numbers, as someone mentioned upthread.

If we’re going by metro area, then here’s one

Boston area has I-93, I-95, and MA 146

Las Vegas Valley has US 93, US 95, and NV 146

Not sure State Highways/Routes is what the OP had in mind

That said, I was sad that Boston has neither US 11 nor US 15 in its metro area, because that would have made the Boston-Vegas connection for this thread

It's not, this is for Interstates and US routes only.

This is only two but I feel the need to share Hattiesburg, MS: I-59, US 49----Texarkana, AR: I-49, US 59.

A future example

Allentown, Pennsylvania will have I-78, US 22, US 222

Birmingham, Alabama will have I-22, US 78, I-222

Good luck with that anytime soon...
