Title: Routes You Clinch And Re-Clinch On A Frequent Basis. ???
Post by: thenetwork on March 11, 2022, 06:42:07 PM
Perhaps you clinch it once or twice a day on your daily work commute, or maybe a few times a month on your outside work route or when you do your regular errands...

But what specific route(s) do you find yourself clinching dozens of times on a regular basis?

For me, nothing on my daily commute, but because of my work in the field, these are my usual re-clinched routes -- usually at least once or twice a month:

COLORADO:

CO-62
CO-184
CO-151
BL-70 in Grand Junction

NEW MEXICO:

NM-516

I clinch I-865 every time going to/from my home city to my college city.

MA 213. It helps that it's a freeway.

There's no route I re-clinch frequently but I occasionally re-clinch the northern IN 119 when visiting my parents.

Second most frequent is probably I-865

I'm pretty sure I clinch I-195 and VA 195 at least 50 times a year.

Used to be NY 335 on a few days a week basis.

Now, I suppose it's I-690 every couple of months or so.

M-58 it's the easiest clinch for me. It's 5 miles long and I can clinch it multiple times a day,
M-84 is another one, a little longer but I can clinch it in my sleep.

M-58 is State Street (Davenport Avenue on the WB one way on the one way stretch) in Saginaw and part of the original US-10 before the freeway north of town was built.

M-84 is a connector between Bay City and Saginaw. It's Bay Road in Saginaw County and Westside Saginaw Road, Salzburg, Lafayette, Garfield and Washington in Bay County.

When I was at the University of Georgia it was easy to clinch GA 10 Loop regularly.

I-675 is another one I can clinch on a somewhat regular basis.

When I lived in Orlando I would clinch FL 552 several times a week given Curry Ford Road was on most of my running routes.

MO SSR M (Jasper County)
MO 360

Whenever we go to Mexico:
COAH 114
COAH 102

When I'm working snow duty and I'm assigned NJ 44, I can clinch it several times in 1 shift, and numerous times throughout the entire season.  I probably won't clinch it for the rest of the year though, regularly only driving about 1 - 2 miles of its northern section.

I used to clinch the AC Expressway many times a year, but we cut down our trips to AC.  Plus, the tolls have gone up considerably and US 322 is a decent, parallel alternative.

FL-285, FL-123, FL-4, Okaloosa Co Hwy 188 aka Old Bethel Rd & Airport Rd several times a month, Walton Co Hwy-1087 frequently. When I lived in Shalimar, FL (pre 2009) I clinched Okaloosa Co Hwy 85A aka Yacht Club Rd & FL-188 aka Racetrack Rd daily.

If we're counting Regional roads, by far my best candidate would be Waterloo Regional Road 54 (Lackner Blvd in Kitchener), since it's on my commute to the office.

Some other honourable mentions:
Waterloo RR 77 (Park Hill Rd in Cambridge): I used to take this to visit my friend before he moved.
Waterloo RR 31 (Kossuth Rd in Cambridge): several times a year I'll take this to go to Guelph.
Ontario Highway 85: several times a year I'll use this to go to St. Jacob's or further north. I'll probably use the full length more this year since my parents got a campsite near Mount Forest.

If we're talking about in one shot, certainly I-590. Clinch and re-clinch all the time on trips to the airport, Henrietta, points south, and sometimes even points west if taking that route to the Thruway.

Second and third would probably be NY 332 and NY 444.

If multiple trips are allowed, certainly NY 590, NY 286, and NY 404 would be in the mix although I rarely/never clinch those routes all at once.

Whenever I have to go down to Indy, I usually clinch SR 104 from SR 4 to US 6 in both directions several times a year.

M-239 is the road that I clinch a few times a year to New Buffalo or I-94 from La Porte.

Nothing really jumps out at me here in Georgia. Most of the routes here become concurrent with something else and go on for very long distances.

In Utah, state routes are shorter and it's a lot easier to "accidentally" clinch something. I used to almost never go a full week without clinching one of SR 93 or 269. SR 184 was even easier before it got lumped into a 186 reroute in 2007 - I had probably clinched that one in my mom's car hundreds of times as a little kid before I knew what the little beehive signs next to the road meant.

The only time I did this frequently was when I lived in Portsmouth and regularly drove the entire length of VA 164. I probably clinched it every month over the four years I lived there. I have clinched CA 247 maybe ten times since moving to So Cal, but that's over almost four years. I've also clinched CA 60 and CA 210 a few times, but I usually get off if traffic is bad (I enjoy exploring the various LA/IE cities) so it's rare that I drive the entire length on any trip.

The only time I ever had to drive from LaPorte to Indy, I used 39->8->421->43->65, but that was before the freeway bypass of Kokomo was built. I guess 4->104->6->31 might be better now.

VA-289 is an easy one for me as it's an essential connector from my neighborhood to areas to the west.

VA-401, VA-244, and VA-267 are others. VA-243 in the past, much less so now. VA-236 less often than I might think because, even though my mom lives off 236, I seldom go all the way to its eastern end in Alexandria.

I-280 in Ohio.

Visiting my friend in Grand Rapids leads me to reclinch I-196 whenever I do it, as I live in northeastern Illinois.  I have no clinches that occur regularly as I drive to work or run errands.

for me, hands down it is WI 125.  WI 125 is College Ave, Appleton, WI's main street, running east-west between downtown Appleton (I live in that area) and I-41 in the west edge of the Appleton area.  I drive the length of that highway several times every day.

My #2 would likely be WI 441, an 'I-441' style beltline freeway around the south and east sides of Appleton, WI.

Since I moved to Mason City, I can generally clinch IA 122 within a calendar month at least once, although I generally have no reason to ever go east of the HyVee at east edge of town.

When I lived in the Omaha area, I would routinely clinch NE 85 at least once every weekend and sometimes during the week. Link 28B was generally, though not always, clinched on trips to Fremont.

KY 498. It's one of three routes I can take from my home to the county seat or beyond (such as to my workplace) and there are some days I clinch it twice.

KY 1144 is another one I could clinch twice a day if I wanted.

Others that get clinched on a non-infrequent basis are KY 77, KY 82, KY 203, and KY 519.

I'd probably say IL 151 is my most common/frequent clinch, as its a nice short Illinois State Highway between Ava and the Bottoms area of Jackson County

My daily commute is (most of) the length of a County Highway, but best I know, Jackson County doesn't assign numbers nor use the blue pentagon shield for County roads/highways *EDIT* I've never seen it signed, but Google Maps seems to think my commute route is Jackson County Route 7

For most folks, that would just be any route in their metropolitan/hometown area that's useful for local traffic from beginning to end.  For me, the top two are I-635 (KS/MO) and KS 10.

Oh, and also I-290, which is basically Buffalo's equivalent of I-590. Doing some quick math, I've probably clinched I-290 at least 300 times per direction, so roughly 600 times total.

My I-590 clinches are even more frequent than that, but also more random in occurrence, so I couldn't even begin to count, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's roughly double that (600x per direction / 1200x total)

I posted a similar question a few years ago.

However, I have changed jobs and no longer make that commute on a regular basis, although I still probably clinch that road a couple times a month.  I also clinch I-471 a few times a year.

I don't think there are any. I was going to say MN 62 lately seems to be one I keep clinching in recent months, but I usually miss the segment between Gleason Road and Tracy Ave.

Not a number and not that often but I clinch the Everett Turnpike in New Hampshire at least once per year often more.
