Title: E-routes coming to USA, Canada (April Fools)
Post by: CNGL-Leudimin on April 01, 2022, 08:59:50 AM
The E-Road network is not a system of electric routes as it might seem at first glance, but rather the international route network crisscrossing all of Europe and even well into Asia. Now, it has been known new routes are being added in the USA and Canada, as they are the only members of the UNECE without E-roads (another thing is why they are in the United Nations Economic Comission for Europe, but that is another topic).

It is already known Canada will finally have an (inter)nationally numbered road network as E-routes are set to replace the provincial roads and not just overlay them, but it is not sure how (and if) they will be signposted in the USA, as there already the Interstates and US Routes. Another thing is the numbering, the East-West A class roads are easy, just make even numbers cross the Atlantic (and they can be expanded up to E128 if needed, much like the Easternmost North-South route is E127), but the North-South A class roads will need a real headscratcher as both the USA and Canada are (way) West of E01 in Ireland and the Iberian Peninsula, maybe they could introduce negative numbers, which would also help with B class roads (they had to add a trailing zero for the Caucasus and Central Asia). This is something that has been left out for the time being, it will be discussed at a further meeting.

Anyway, here is a recording (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPYZpwSpKmA) of the recent meeting between the UNECE, the FHWA, AASHTO, and Transport Canada. Any thoughts?

I'm still waiting for the traffic jams on the Skyway that Back to the Future Part II promised we have by 2015.

Just found a source that says a new route, E-420, will be used to connect Paris to Quebec. The route will connect directly with London, the Faroe Islands, Reykjavík, and Nuuk. Read more about it here (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_route_E420).

About time. This will really help to spur E-commerce and E-trade. Might even help (finally) alleviate the backlog of E-mail.

But will California decommission all Interstate, US, and state highways that overlap the E-highway system?

Wouldn't matter, California considers all destinations the same thing.  As long the Route don't duplicate nobody gives a shit.

Ha, I see this went into chaos. I was referring to this network (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_E-road_network), I live right off E07 (signposted in Spain as E-7, and sometimes as E-07). Also, I see nobody noticed the video I linked was Rick Astley's other hit, as the rickroll song has been seen too many times.

Didn't someone in the Justin Trudeau government announce that they were working on a new 'interprov' hetwork of major highways throughout Canada, with their numbering to be based  on an an extension of border ending interstates in the neighboring USA and marked with red and white 'maple leaf' signs?

:hmmm:
